We recently connected with Janice Chrysler and have shared our conversation below.
Janice, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
There were a few but looking back it all began when I was ten years old with a dream that left me with a “knowing” I was to help others and it would be through spiritual work. Later, when I was in my 30’s knew I should leave my job I had at the time but I was limited by fears of change and the unknown. Had an accident at work, and while I was laying on the floor with boxes and shelving all around me, heard that inner voice tell me, “nothing will change if you change nothing.” I wondered what that could mean, shook it off, one year later I ended up in hospital after having 4 grand mal seizures in 24 hours – lots of sorting things out as I lay in the hospital. Went back to the same job, ended up with fibromyalgia – likely a result of the last two incidents- and it was then I knew I needed to make the move. Through job change, met a woman who was to teach me Reiki, from that I became a certified hypnotherapist and beginning Mindful Journey.. The most difficult and defining moment for me spiritually was when after 2.5 years of literal soul searching, I made the decision that I had to leave conventional church as that was limiting me in doing my work. I trusted I was following my path and purpose, and began facilitating meditation workshops, teaching Reiki, becoming an ordained Metaphysical Minister, ended up going to workplaces and the local University to give talks on compassion fatigue, meditation etc. and grew my private practice through spiritual coaching – assisting people to find their purpose, overcome fears and empower them to make changes. This led to my writing two books, hosting a podcast, and most recently graduating with my Master’s Degree from The University of Metaphysics. Can’t wait to see what else this 66 year old can do!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
At a very young age I felt I was to do something that would help others when I grew up. For many years, the idea of being a teacher was always in the forefront of my mind. Although the opportunity did not present itself when I was younger to be a traditional school teacher, I would fill that purpose through volunteering as a tutor at schools, teach Sunday School and girl’s groups, assist with Beavers and Cubs and was even a Brownie leader for a spell. Whenever there was a committee for something I seemed to find myself on the team and I did enjoy organizing and doing any project where I felt others were being helped. Like many people in my area, I grew up attending church and being involved there. However, as time went on I did not feel spiritually fulfilled and I had too many questions that were not being answered in the conventional way. This time of self reflection and soul work opened my heart and mind to opportunities that would lead me to my own path and purpose. I decided to teach others what I had learned in order to assist them in discovering their true potentiality, release their fears and open them to the endless possibilities that lay before them. I have come to realize my own life experiences help me in guiding others on their own journeys. I discovered my knowing I was to be a teacher and leader were meant for “now”, not in the conventional way but a metaphysical way. Once I accepted this challenge, clients began coming for hypnosis, Reiki, to learn to meditate, I was asked to go to groups to speak on stress management, compassion fatigue, where self hypnosis and meditation were used as a tool. Other times (against my own wanting at first) I was asked to speak at Spiritual Churches and to channel messages which led to opening myself up to doing personal intuitive readings. I became an ordained Metaphysical Minister and as such have performed numerous weddings, celebrations of life over the years. When my clients told me I should write a book, I did! Then wrote another and this last year graduated from the University of Metaphysics with a Master’s Degree in Metaphysical Science. I am presently working on my Doctoral for Metaphysic Hypnosis, looking on how using hypnosis for past life regression can assist people in this lifetime to over come blocks, fears and evolving spiritually.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being in the mind, body, and spirit field is unconventional to say the least. I feel it is extremely important to keep an open heart and mind, understanding everyone is on their own journey and your own ideas and truths may change…and indeed they should, otherwise you will become stuck in the past and old ways of thinking and doing things. It is important to listen to the stories of others, to observe and learn from their struggles and successes. Be as objective as possible to your own life experiences, again remembering they are in the past, you cannot change them but you can learn from them. You cannot change or control how others will react or act towards you but you can control how you act or react. Choose to come from a positive place, for what you envision will become your reality. In this field I feel it is important to meditate, to keep in connection to your higher self, to be willing to question what is true to you, and be willing to step outside the box when needed.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Overcoming the basic fear of what others will think, learning to be patient and forgiving with myself and allowing my ego to step aside in order for all the above to take place. Once I understood that I have the right to my own understanding of what it true to me, and that I could help other people open up their true potential by being honest, compassionate and non- judgmental with them I was able to gain the trust and loyalty of clients. I have come to understand it is important for me to hold space for others, a place where they feel safe, and a place they can ask questions without judgement. I am involved in my community where and when I can, offering my services at times for free, organizing events so others starting out in this line of work have a place to meet the public. When I first started in this area, I was asked to be the chair of a newly formed Wellness Committee in the area. Although my reasons for taking this position was to bring awareness of all the wellness practitioners in our area, it brought credibility to my work as well.
