We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Janey Carter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Janey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

Paper by Janey’s mission is to spread happiness and encourage others!

I have always loved to paint, but after a car accident, I had to learn how to be creative in a new way.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

My name is Janey! I am a 22-year-old entrepreneur. I had a car accident when I was 17 and began my business 3 years later. I dislocated my skull from my spine and damaged my spinal cord. I regained some movement since then, so I was able to paint the colors for each card, Then, I uploaded them to my laptop. There, I add designs and words. I use a pair of assistive glasses that Bluetooth to my laptop and that is how I control the mouse.

The first cards I made were during COVID in May of 2020. The stores were closed and we couldn’t go shopping, I wanted to make something people could give their mom’s for Mother’s Day.

I sold more than I expected and many people told me how happy their mom was to have a card made by me. I felt very accomplished!

My cards are different than any other greeting card you will find. They are unique and a good price. I design each one myself. I have hundreds to choose from at paperbyjaney.com and new ones are added almost every month. I can also make a custom card, invitation, or anything you need!

Before my accident, I planned to join the Air Force. I was disappointed when I realized that was no longer an option. My life is super different than anything I could have imagined, but I wake up every day with a positive attitude and a smile on my face! I’m excited to get up each morning and get to work!

How did you build your audience on social media?
