We recently connected with Janette Jacinto and have shared our conversation below.
Janette, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Ever since I can remember, I’ve always loved fashion & beauty. As a young girl, I loved dressing up & playing with makeup. My first job was at a clothing store & I would spend half my paycheck on clothes, shoes & makeup. Customers would ask me to put outfits together for them & they would even compliment me on my makeup. That’s when I knew that I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path. I wasn’t the best at makeup & I wanted to perfect it so in 2017, I attended beauty school and became a certified makeup artist. Now I love & enjoy creating beauty content, working with brands & building relationships with other content creators & brands.

Janette, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, I’m Janette, a Latina Content Creator from San Diego, CA. I love & enjoy creating beauty & lifestyle content. I started off as a mommy influencer in 2017/2018. I would share mostly everything about motherhood. My kids started to grow and wanted nothing to do with taking pictures. Plus, I didn’t want to share so much of their life on social media, so I decided to focus on myself & my talent. I started creating beauty content, sharing my favorite beauty products, outfits, makeup tutorials, etc. It soon became something that I really enjoyed doing. Plus, getting paid for something that I love doing, icing on the cake. It’s not easy, though. I’m a stay at home mom, and I have to find the time to create content without feeling guilty. I get major mom guilt, but I have to remind myself that it’s okay to put myself first because my dreams matter too. There’s days when the guilt wins though, and I put off filming/creating. That’s something I’m working on. I know that I have to stay committed & disciplined if I want this to be a successful career.
Besides mom guilt, there’s also imposter syndrome. Yes, there’s days where I feel like I’m not good enough & my content isn’t good enough. I get this little voice in my head telling me that I should just give up. I’m not a big Creator, and engagement on my social media channels isn’t the best sometimes. And that gets to me. But like I’ve said, I have to remind myself that I am good enough, that my content is good enough, my audience loves what I put out, and I can’t give up on myself. That is something that I’m proud of, that I’m able to keep going no matter what life throws at me & no matter what that little voice in my head tells me. That’s what I want my kids, my audience, potential followers and future creators to know. You can’t give up on yourself and your dreams. No matter what anyone tells you. Your dreams & goals matter.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience on social media can be easy & hard, but it’s very achievable. They way I’ve built my audience on my social media channels is staying true to myself, staying consistent, showing my face, replying to direct messages, being kind, not gatekeeping, and putting out content that my audience and I love.
My advice to those who are just starting to build a social media presence is to go for it, stay true to yourself, stay consistent, and don’t be afraid of what people might say or think of you. You really have to stop caring about that. Remember, they don’t pay your bills or put food on the table.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, there is. My goal is to always be available for my kids. They are one of the reasons why I decided to go all in. I’ve always wanted to be a stay at home mom, but I also make some extra income. Social media has allowed me to do that. I get to do what I love without sacrificing time away from my kids. That is what drives my creative journey.
