Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ja’nette Hodge. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Ja’nette thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
The idea to start my business came when I realized how passionate I was about esthetics and helping others feel confident in their skin. Once the idea took root, I knew the first step was getting the proper education, so I enrolled in school to get my esthetician license.
While in school, I started planning my future business. After getting licensed, I focused on gathering all the supplies I needed to get started. Building my clientele was crucial, so I decided to offer free sets initially. This helped me create content and showcase my work, which in turn attracted clients and allowed me to grow my portfolio.
With every set I completed, I gained more experience and confidence, and slowly but surely, my business started to take off. It’s been a challenging but incredibly rewarding journey, and I’m excited for what’s next!

Ja’nette, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an esthetician and a certified eyelash extension artist with a passion for providing comprehensive beauty services and fostering a welcoming environment for my clients. My journey into the beauty industry began with a strong desire to blend artistry with self-care. I pursued formal education to earn my esthetician license.
In my small business, I offer a range of services including skin treatments, eyelash extensions, and waxing. Additionally, I sell lash trays and teach eyelash extension courses. Each service is designed to enhance my clients’ natural beauty and boost their confidence, while my products and courses are crafted to support other beauty professionals in their growth.
What sets me apart is my commitment to creating a nonjudgmental, open, and friendly atmosphere where clients can feel comfortable and cared for. I see my role as not just a service provider but also offering a space where clients can unwind and discuss their needs and concerns.
I am most proud of the trust and positive relationships I’ve built with my clients, as well as the ability to help them feel their best. I want potential clients and followers to know that my brand is built on a foundation of genuine care and expertise. My goal is to provide exceptional beauty services while also contributing to the professional development of others in the industry.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has been word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied customers. When clients have a positive experience, they naturally share their recommendations with friends, family, and social circles. This personal endorsement is incredibly valuable as it builds trust with potential new clients who are looking for reliable and high-quality services.
Additionally, social media has played a significant role in attracting new clients. By showcasing my work, sharing client testimonials, and engaging with my audience, I’ve been able to reach a wider audience and build a strong online presence.
Combining these organic methods with a commitment to excellent service ensures that clients not only return but also recommend me to others, creating a sustainable and growing client base.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of the most challenging moments in my career was when I first started my business and faced a long period with no clients. I had invested a lot of time and resources into setting up my studio and was eager to begin, but the initial months were slower than I had anticipated. I struggled with self-doubt and worried that I might not be able to attract clients.
Despite the slow start, I remained committed to my goal. I used this time to refine my skills, improve my marketing strategies, and network within the community. I offered free services to build a portfolio and gather testimonials, which eventually helped to spread the word about my business. Slowly but surely, the effort paid off, and I began to build a steady clientele.
This period of uncertainty taught me the value of persistence and patience. It also reinforced my belief in the importance of continuing to provide excellent service and stay engaged with my clients. I’m proud of overcoming that initial hurdle and building a successful business from the ground up.
