We were lucky to catch up with Janet Young recently and have shared our conversation below.
Janet, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea to start my juice company after going through a traumatic health experience. At the age of 45, I woke up with a terrible headache. I drove myself to the emergency room where they did a Cat scan and found out that I had a brain tumor and an aneurysm. They performed surgery to stop the bleeding and remove the pituitary tumor. After spending 6 weeks in the hospital I went home and made the decision to improve my health.It was then that I started creating natural healthy juices and that is how I came up with the idea to start Caribbean Medley.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a proud Mother and daughter of the beautiful Island of Jamaica who migrated to the United States at age 23. My past careers included Nursing, Business Management, Entertainment, and Politics. I’m currently engaged in Entrepreneurial endeavors such as Inspirational Writing, and I’ve authored my first book, Blessings Like Raindrops, which is available on Amazon. I’m a Mother of a handsome and intelligent 25 years old young man AJ, whom I love and adore. I’m a former director for Greater Sunrise Kiwanis Club, judge for Miss Jamaica Florida, Miss Plus Size America, and Miss Business Global.
I am presently the proud founder and owner of Caribbean Medley organic juices. I called it my sweat, blood, and tears. I’m also a founding member and Director for Serendipity Women’s Mental Wellness Foundation, Inc. and Marjorie Forrest Foundation. My passion is helping others and creating healthy food and juices to help others maintain a healthy lifestyle. I’ve received multiple awards for volunteering for my Church and community, but my greatest reward is my blessings from God! What sets me apart from others is that with everything I’ve been through in my life, I still believe that I’m just getting started, and until I leave this world, I’ll keep moving and helping others to accomplish their goals. Nothing can keep me down.
Please tell us about your business.
My product currently consists of organic juice but I plan to expand to other healthy food choices. The name of my company is Caribbean Medley. I came up with the name while making a delicious salad at home with a medley of vegetables and fruits. Because living a healthy lifestyle and seeing others do the same is important to me, I will continue to pursue my passion. I’ve alway been a very creative and hard working person, and I believe in giving my all in whatever I do. I’m passionate about Caribbean Medley. I’ve been through a lot of upheavals in my life. Even while building this Company, I’ve experienced a lot of bumps in the road, but I don’t believe in giving up so I’ve kept my composure, put my faith in God and keep on pushing. I’m most proud of the fact that I’m working hard and smart. Literally through blood, sweat and tears, I’m building my dream company. I’m determined that nothing and no one is going to stop me. I have great work ethics. I stay focused, determined and positive. As I’ve often said, I have the DNA of Jesus, so I have blessings like raindrops falling on me. My brand aims to promote a healthy lifestyle, healthy food consumption and supporting worthy causes.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I built my reputation with my market by producing a quality product and being consistent with fulfilling order requests. I am known as a savvy business woman who can be counted on to meet changes in demand and bring a cordial atmosphere to an often serious business.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I would advise anyone putting a team together, to be selective in choosing the members of your team. It is important that team members share your goals and vision for the growth of the company. Don’t allow everyone to sit around your table of life.
