Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Janet Weed Beaver. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Janet, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I’ve always worked in an art related environment. 20 years ago I took the leap and became a full time artist. When I attended art school we didn’t get much career advice. The concentration was on creating and developing works of art. I gradually worked on the business side of promoting sales while still creating my art. It takes time and patience but I am proud of what I have accomplished.
Janet, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I love creating art every day. To be able to develop a talent and share it with my community fulfills me. I have been fortunate to show art in galleries in my region for a long time now. I have created a following of clients that love and appreciate my art. I have also participated in many fundraising events over the years that have benefited many organizations. My community of artists are wonderful. Not only do I get to do what I love but to share it is amazing.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Living on a farm and raising a family has been a challenge while trying to build an art business. Time is always an issue. Nature is my muse and I feel fortunate to live where I can step behind the barns and immerse myself in natural beauty. I was determined to keep creating and have learned to incorporate every experience into my art.

How did you build your audience on social media?
When I started my art career in earnest there was no social media. Thank goodness the days when I had to take pictures of my art and get them developed, meet with potential clients for a commission usually about an hour away, are behind me. For someone that is not too crazy about new technology, the social media advertising came slow. It has taken awhile for me to catch up but in the meantime I developed relationships with my clients and forged ahead.
