Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Janet Rae Orth. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Janet Rae, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
Yes, I take multiple vacations a year. I give 100% of myself when I am working. I show up completely for every client I have. So I feel it is important for me to step away often to decompress, have fun, renew and inspire myself. When I am on vacation I typically leave an automatic email reply that says I am away and will reply when I return. So that I am able to truly free my mind and soul from work. I believe in the adage work hard, play hard. In addition to vacations where I typically travel, when I look at my upcoming schedule and see multiple back to back appointments for weeks on end, I look for the first opportunity I see in my schedule to take a few days, or a week off in a row, and I do it. I might not travel on those days but I will hike, ride my horse, do whatever I enjoy, that centers and renews me. Knowing I have those days off coming up allows me to work hard, and give it my all, knowing there is a break coming for me to give to myself. This balances me and allows me to stay in the joy of what I do, without burning out.
Janet Rae, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
With joy and humor, I help my clients find their happiness, live their passion and heal their hearts. This is the essence of what I do. The healing of hearts occurs, when I provide clarity and comfort to my clients about past pains. This insight gives them a renewed understanding of past hurts. Which allows them to let it go and move on.
Finding their passion and living their happiness occurs, when I help my clients know themselves and what is blocking them better. So they can remove the limits blocking them, and create the life they want.
I do all of this, through a combination of doing private sessions. During which, I read the layers of the aura. This covers a little of everything. From work, money, home, and health. To relationships, self esteem, communication and intuition. In addition to this, I do energy healing, to facilitate removing any blocks of energy that are stopped or not flowing. I also teach multiple classes, on everything from protecting our energy, to manifesting and developing intuition. These classes give my clients real tools to protect and heal themselves, and create the life they want. I do these classes, both in group settings, and by phone one on one.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to see clearly what is effecting a person, combined with my ability to communicate constructively, and provide guidance in a practical and useful way. One of my clients, playfully refers to me as the ‘Sensible Psychic”. As she feels that accurately describes the grounded way in which I communicate and guide.
I am truly proud of the profound difference I have made in the lives of my clients. Which they express in the many testimonials on my website. I feel it is the gift of my service to others, in action, when someone leaves a bad relationship with courage and optimism. Or finally creates the work they have always desired, or restores their body to true health. Or when they make any change that improves their life, as a result of a reading with me. This is my joy. It gratifies me to help others be more happy, fulfilled, inspired and comforted.
The biggest compliment I have is the the fact that my clients continue to work with me for decades. They also introduce me to siblings, spouses, adult children, and friends, who also work with me for decades. Word of mouth is my biggest testament.
I got into this work because I used to be an accountant, a very unhappy one. And I wanted to do something that felt more fulfilling to me and important.
I work with my clients on every issue there is. People ask me for insights on who to hire, how to promote their business, money issues, investing, parenting questions or relationship issues. Every relationship from coworkers, to family and friends. Often people come to me in grief, when they have lost a beloved person or pet, or a relationship ended. When they are empty nesters and unsure how to start over. When they are feeling stuck and unsure why or what to do next. I have addressed every life challenge or change there is. Sometimes people come to me just for fun or curiosity. As a way to check in with themselves.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I was an accountant for many years. I was good at it, respected but never felt fulfilled by it. I thought for many years about things I might do instead. Thinking I might go the creative route, I applied to the Fashion Institute of Technology in San Francisco, to be a fashion designer. I was accepted, in fact they begged me to attend for years, but I didn’t want to be a student again. And it didn’t feel right in my heart. So I kept thinking and looking. Finally, I realized I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew what I didn’t want to do. I didn’t want to be an accountant. I didn’t want to work in a high rise, with fluorescent lights from 9-5 plus. I was good with money, and had saved a lot. So I gave 90 days notice on my job. During this time, I helped the company I was leaving make a smooth transition to the next person in my place. I was going to travel but my Mom got sick so I stayed closer to home. I started doing things I was interested in but never had time for before like taking meditation classes. Through this, I stumbled into realizing that I had a gift, that I was more than just intuitive, which I already knew, but that I could read others. I started giving people readings for fun. I don’t think I even charged people. And I learned that the information I received was useful and helped others heal. And change and create what they really wanted in life. I discovered how fulfilling it was for me to do this. And fun!
Had I not completely left what I was doing, stepped away entirely from the corporate world, I would not have seen this new path. It wasn’t on my radar before. It wasn’t in the boxes I was looking at when I searched for my new field. I had to get entirely away from all that and the programming that came with it, to see what was next for me. It took courage to do this but I have never regretted it for one minute.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I make an effort to stay in touch with my clients. I reach out occasionally via email or text, to those I haven’t heard from in a while. Just to say hello, touch base, and see how they are doing. I encourage my clients to sign up for my newsletter and follow me on social media. I look for them on Linkedin and send them an invite to connect. I post content weekly, to stay top of mind on Linkedin and Instagram. When I am doing something new, like a new workshop or class, or have a new digital product, I let my clients know. I don’t like to send mass emails. I know this saves a lot of time but I believe these emails end up in a lot of spam folders or not read. So I try to avoid doing this as much as possible. I try to keep it personal. I send personal emails directly to my clients, one by one. It is more work but the results are better. I develop deep, meaningful relationships with my clients. I make myself available when they have emergencies or extra needs. I go above and beyond and this inspires the deepest loyalty in them.
