We recently connected with Janet McCullough and have shared our conversation below.
Janet, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
As I was getting older I noticed looking in the mirror one day and said you’re looking older. Then I thought I’d ask some people around me that was getting older as well what are you doing to take of your skin and most of the replies were “what do you mean”? My reply would be yes! Cleansers etc because I’ve been using Mary Kay since 18 years old and I see my skin changing and since I workout I didn’t want my body and have not match meaning my body tight and looking youthful but I didn’t want my face Iooking like a Hag…so I stared investigating what I can do and came across some skincare equipment training courses. After researching the trading course I quickly learned I needed to be an Esthetician in order to use them. I then researched Esthetic schools near me and did more research and learned about Academy of Nails and Esthetics a private school that teach you all the latest and the greatest services and equipment. I enrolled and it took me 9 months to finish with all the dedication and consistency. I worked as an Esthetician part-time at Massage Envy for a year while still working full-time in Corporate America. I worked at Ulta Beauty as an Esthetician Part time .for another year…

Janet, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with concentration in Healthcare Management. I also have several Licenses and Certifications. I provide Skincare services such as Facials for Men and Women, Chemical Peels, Intimate Bleaching, MicroNeedling, Dermaplaning, Radio-frequency Treatments for weight loss, Teeth Whitening, and waxing services. I help people get their self-esteem and confidence back because of having Skincare issues rather on the face for appearance or private area for intimacy.. what sets me a part from other Esthetician’s are Google visibility, a Service like Intimate Bleaching that no one else between George and DC I do so people travel to get this service. It’s a confidence Booster. I’m most proud because I do professional athletes Skincare and set up Skincare Fitneas Plans. I’m also most proud of my private label Eyelashes Strips Brand called “JMc” pronounced “JMac” and I sell them online and currently in 3 different beauty supply stores. I also have a Certification in Oncology Skincare and volunteered for 5 years educating Cancer Patients how to care for their skin pre Chemo and Radiation Therapy and Post Chemo and Radiation Therapy. I’ve also have spoke at Esthetic Schools to new students to give getting started tips. I’ve been invited to speak at a High School Cosmetology Department about Skincare. Volunteered at the Salvation Army Shelter. Educating adults on Skincare and grooming to help prep them for a job

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My journey has been interesting. I continued to work while I was in Esthetic School, I worked full time in corporate while I worked part-time as an Esthetician determined to learn the business before doing it full time. Since I didn’t have support as a single person I worked while I built my clientele, bought equipment, learned marketing. I was determined to make it work by eventually moving into a small suite inside a wellness center while still working corporate. I worked 7 days a week for 2 1/2 years and boy was I tired. I did several interviews for articles about my journey. Failure wasn’t an option had to much time and money invested to fall by the ‘waste side”.
