We were lucky to catch up with Janet Mack recently and have shared our conversation below.
Janet, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve ever worked on was a song I wrote for my sister. My oldest sister passed away June 2020 from Breast Cancer. At first I did not know why I was writing the song “Sunny Days”. I would go to work early and I would park in the front. I kept getting downloads so, I could not let up. I was writing on an envelope. I just knew I needed to get this particular song done. I wrote this song in 2019. I recorded “Sunny Days” January 2020. I was also going through a lot. My sister called me one day and told me she had cancer. As much as I wanted to break down I couldn’t. I had to stay strong for her. Each and every step I was there. It dawned on me that the song I wrote was for her. I sent it to her. She loved it. She told me to continue to do music. When I went back to the Hospital with her they diagnosed her with stage four cancer. They told us it had spread throughout the Body, Organs, and Bones. I wanted to cry when she asked me “Am I going to die?” I told her “Talk to God he has all the answers” She passed away 5 days before her Birthday. I make sure I keep her legacy alive and the song by me: J Mack on the Track “Sunny Days” will keep great memories and is also a reminder that no matter what you’re going through everything will be OK. In conclusion, My sister Deborah Williams fought to the end she was a true fighter. I’m so glad I listened to my instinct. “Sunny Days” is one of my most meaningful projects I have worked on thus far.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to pivot my life when I put my business and career before my health. I ignored all the signs so, my health started declining. What I learned from that is that you need the proper rest, exercise, and nutrition in order to continue to run a successful business.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to reach as many as I can to give them positive and uplifting messages.
