We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Janet Kubik. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Janet below.
Janet, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Authenticity feels to me like the greatest risk I’ve ever taken.
Being me has put me in a vulnerable position. I have the ability to talk to the dead. That’s a very blunt and simplified statement, but at its core is the truth, and the reason I have been made to feel so vulnerable in being who I am.
Unexpectedly discovering these abilities led to a very challenging choice in my life since it tasked me with deciding how I was going to “show up” in the world.
My heightened intuition allows me to access information that can literally change lives but can also potentially lead to very adverse affects.
Intuition is a skill that has long been judged and questioned and it is hard to not anticipate facing those same repercussions personally when sharing my experience.
I have come up with a little saying…”what you choose to believe about my abilities doesn’t stop your grandma from telling me what you had for breakfast this morning”.
Essentially, the opinions/beliefs of others do not change my personal experience. They don’t affect my abilities and ultimately, they are not my responsibility.
Living my experience in its greatest expression of truth is what’s best for me and therefore authenticity is my choice.
I am thankful for the positivity that has come into my life by allowing myself to be who I am and although there is the presence of resistance at times, the journey that my own acceptance has offered has been amazing.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I grew up feeling the need to be in the spotlight and with big dreams.
I truly believed in them all and I also believed in the fact that I felt that way for a reason.
My passion was the performing arts which led to several years of dance lessons, theatre productions and eventually to a professional career in the Entertainment Industry.
My first professional gig came at the age of 20 in a featured role in the Tony award winning musical CRAZY FOR YOU under the direction of theatrical powerhouse Susan Stroman and alongside the legendary Mickey Rooney. I distinctly remember my best friend saying “you landed here so that you wouldn’t spend your whole life trying to get to this place because as amazing as it is, it isn’t all you’re meant to do/be.”
Neither she or I really knew exactly what that meant but both innately felt it was somehow true. I continued to enjoy a wonderful career in the Industry engaging in many of it’s different facets including TV, film, choreography and producing.
I always knew that the work that felt best was when I was simply being me. Trying to become other characters or being overly presentational never really seemed to fit.
After several years of, gratefully, a successful career I stepped back to my hometown to raise my family. It was during this time that things took an unexpected twist. A very long story short, I began to experience what is referred to as a soul awakening and in the process, discovered immensely heightened intuitive abilities. This has led me to exist in the world in a very different way than I had ever anticipated.
The Arts are still my passion and remain an integral piece of how I choose to share my work, but now instead of telling other people’s stories as an actor/performer my focus has become sharing my own story. I use my abilities to support others in receiving typically inaccessible information and guidance from beyond the seen and hopefully, am showing others that there is more that exists than what we may have come to believe. Right now I am working in the world in this unique marriage of artistry and intuition and am finally understanding what my bestie might have been talking about all those years ago.
I feel like that childhood need for the spotlight was intended to drive me towards doing good in the world. To fuel me to embrace this seemingly crazy experience in my life and to potentially be of support to others by sharing it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I feel like for me the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability to truly believe in the possibility of doing things differently.
It’s trusting that discomfort is a catalyst and that as uncomfortable as in many cases things have become, that there actually are other options for moving forward.
It feels almost like an innate knowingness that the answers we need are there, just maybe not within the proverbial box. Creativity comes with the willingness to look outside that box to see what’s there to be found. For me as an artist, using my passion and personal skill set to share that belief and that willingness can hopefully serve as inspiration for others and as a reminder that there truly is more if we allow ourselves the opportunity to explore it.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I feel as though one of the most beneficial things I have learned on my own personal journey is the value of myself as a resource. It seems we as a culture have become accustomed to searching outside of ourselves for all of the answers we seek. It has been through an intense and often exciting process of self-exploration where I have come to look to myself to truly be the navigator of my experience.
Truthfully, no one knows me better than me and all of the best progress I have made in my life has come from a balanced combination of guidance from my own heart and mind. Trusting in my intuition as being both legit and accurate has truthfully taken a lot of practice but has easily become my most valuable resource.
