We recently connected with Janese Howard and have shared our conversation below.
Janese, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you’re open to it, can you talk to us about the best (or worst) investment you’ve made. What’s the backstory and the relevant context behind why you made the investment
As a business owner, I would say the best investment I have made thus far is,,,investing time and pouring into myself and my business. Sometimes, as a business owner we get lost in the material investments of business not realizing that taking time to perfect what you love doing is also an investment too. There’s been situations with shoots where I felt like “omg, I’ve never done this before Lord I don’t know how it’s going to come out.” But, it always does because I choose to put the time in to get the results my clients are pleased with.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I began photography about 4 years ago as a hobby working alongside my fiancè. Working with him on shoots and projects he was asked to do influenced me to begin photography. I literally stepped out on faith when he brought me my first camera and began my brand and company J. Nashaè Photography. When I launched my company it felt like a sense of pride that was beyond overwhelming. To this day to look at my work and to know there is a story behind each shoot I have booked is amazing!
I feel like what I pride myself on as a business owner is my ability to be transparent with my clients. I always try to go above and beyond to get them the absolute best outcome we can accomplish together to achieve their vision. I am open and honest with them about my skill set and I set realistic expectations for them and myself every shoot. I feel like putting the clients needs ahead of your own and being honest with them turns a one-time client into a forever client.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for me growing my clientele has definitely been word of mouth recommendations. Although, I have a social media page and website, majority of my clients have been people I have known or met through a client previously shot by me. People don’t realize how far a simple mention of your name in a room can help the growth of your business. That is why it is so important to always carry your business and self to the highest regards.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I would say what has helped me build my reputation within my market has definitely been my ability to be me. I represent me well so it only makes sense to represent my brand the same. I allow my work and ethics to speak for my artistry and stay in a lane that works for me and my brand.
