We recently connected with Janell Kremer and have shared our conversation below.
Janell, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
In 2020, we decided to begin the homeschooling journey. If I am honest, I was a little disappointed because that was the year I would have been free to jump into my writing career. However, homeschooling my 2 kids became a blessing and it opened up a whole realm of writing opportunities. I began to recognize the need for good resources for parents of faith. In 2021, I created a website and started sharing some of what I had learned. Then, I began creating a calendar that I offered to people for free in exchange for their subscription to my blog. Now, 2 years after beginning to write, I prayed for inspiration. In February of 2023, the floodgates opened! I began to wake up from dreams about the books I wrote. And, after spending some time in prayer, I would suddenly have ideas pouring out of me! They came so quickly, I had a hard time writing all of them down. I took different colored post-it notes and began writing down my ideas. Blue post-its were books on one subject, and then pink ones were resources on another subject. My room became filled with those sticky notes! After getting all of those ideas out of my head and into paper- I could then come up with a priority list and be able to sort which things would be better as a video or a book.
I don’t know what this will turn into, but I’m just following God’s instructions step by step. If it’s His idea, I know it will succeed, so I will try to just listen, obey, and trust.
Janell, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Janell Kremer and my craft is a combination of creativity and education. I’m creating a platform where people can find unique resources for their homeschooling classroom. My approach is all about partnership with God through it all. There are a lot of parents out there that are searching for content that is biblically based and Holy Spirit led. I offer content that contains both of those things.
Right now, I have an Etsy shop where parents can purchase a human body template and use it to create a 3 foot body made out of felt. My shop name is Heartfelt by Janell.
On my social media pages, you’ll find support and encouragement.
Right now, I have a free Hebrew calendar for people that are interested in learning more about biblical history and how it ties into a Christian Worldview.
I am currently working to expand free resources on my website that will help homeschooling family’s learn and grow.
One of my favorite projects has been a book about a Psalm 23 through the eyes of a child. This will go through each verse, explaining (with beautiful pictures) the context for both the parent and the child to go deeper with the Lord.

How did you build your audience on social media?
My social media audience is small right now and I am ok with that, because it is genuine. What I have been doing is looking for accounts that are like-minded, and supporting them. And in return, many of them have liked or commented on my accounts. I am learning what people are looking for in social media. I think the main thing people are looking for is connection, so I try to build opportunities for connection. Lately I have been talking to people through stories on Facebook and Instagram while doing dishes, or putting on my makeup. My goal is to make them feel like I’m their friend, and show them that I genuinely care about their struggles and want to help them find a solution. In addition to that, I’ve been using an app called Canva to create beautiful videos, reels, documents, and pictures. It has been a huge blessing to use that technology to reach people.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I was a kid, I struggled with insecurity. And that didn’t go away completely when I entered adulthood. In fact, my insecurities became more apparent when I joined the journey of motherhood. Fortunately, spending time teaching my children has taught me to push aside my fears and try new things. Teaching them resiliency has become the origin of my own resilience.
As a creative person, I have always had a lot of projects and ideas going on in my head. The hardest part is getting them out of my head! Many times I start a project and it ends up being a flop. But that’s ok! The mistakes I have made teach me more about myself and how to create even better things in the future.
There have been numerous times when I have created something that I thought was going to be a huge success, and you could hear crickets chirping! One time in particular was when I designed felt food on my Etsy shop. I produced tons of product and only two people bought the items! After that flop, I could have given up, but I chose to look into why it failed and how I could improve my products in the future.
