We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Janell Castro. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Janell below.
Janell, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
Ultimately, I aim to pour my heart into everything I pursue, to happily complete every journey that sets itself in front of me, and to be kind to those around me. This is what I hope to be remembered for, and to set an example that hard work and perseverance can be the key you need to achieve even the dreams you may think are impossible.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Modeling and fashion arts have always been a passion of mine, many factors deterred me from beginning my career, from the load of my University Studies, to more physical issues like scars from previous health operations. Once I began my time majoring Business in University, I realized how important it is to live in the now, and to pursue what calls to me.
Present day, I have been a Model for almost two years, traveling to work in productions for NYFW, LAFW, and Miami Swim Week for Runways amongst other projects. Nothing could have prepared me for how much I love my work, nothing beats meeting other creative minds, and being able to bring a collective vision to life in a grand and beautiful way.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
As many little girls do, I had big dreams, and I had a lot of them. Unfortunately, when I was a little younger there were many things I felt I just couldn’t do. I was born with multiple murmurs, and had to get multiple open heart surgeries at a young age, this was a big factor in feeling as if I couldn’t accomplish the things other people may not think twice about. However, as I grew stronger, I learned that the scar on my chest was not a burden, but beautiful. A not so ordinary mark for a not so ordinary person. Finally as I excel in the industry I am now, I feel as confident as I ever could. It would be my dream to help other people in similar situations see their true beauty and potential as I have.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being my whole and true self has gotten me as far as I’ve come in the time I have been working as a model. At first, I definitely held up some walls, because I just wasn’t comfortable with myself enough to let loose, I quickly learned that my career would suffer from this. Once I was able to finally let go and be the person I am, unapologetically, I was able to book more and have met the most amazing people through these opportunities. People I have grown friendships with, and people I work with on a regular basis now. Finding myself and putting myself out into the world was the most important thing I did for my career.
