We were lucky to catch up with Janel Caminos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Janel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My passion for travel lead me to create my travel blog, Rizos Travel (Curls Travel). I’ve been traveling and living in different countries since a baby. Coming from a multicultural background, I’ve always been interested in learning about other cultures. Traveling has exposed me to diverse cultures, dances and foods. I just wanted to share the things I’ve learned through travel with others. There’s so much out there to explore!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My advice is to always be your genuine self. Your followers will trust you and support you for being YOU. Your personal brand is everything! Don’t try to be like another influencer or compare yourself. I’ve been blogging for years by sharing the things I enjoy to do and people love it. Being who you are will bring you the right opportunities. Be you!
And don’t forget to follow and tag the brands you want to partner with on your posts and stories. Put yourself out there!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to continue to host “Curly Gyal Connects” curly hair events by expanding to different cities/counties. I want to host annual group trips for curly hair girls who have always wanted to travel and connect with other curlfriends. My social events will entail networking, vendors, dancing classes, curly hair tutorials, travel giveaways, product swaps and brand partnerships . My purpose is connecting curlfriends who share the same passion regardless of their location in the world.
