We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jane Ugah. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jane below.
Alright, Jane thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
From a young age, I have been lucky to have a family, surroundings, and experiences that nurtured my creativity. While it is hard to pinpoint exactly when my passion for art ignited, I know it has been a journey of growth and discovery. One highlight that stands out is when I was selected for an artist residency program. It was an incredible opportunity to explore new places, connect with fellow creatives, and showcase my art to a wider audience. Seeing people’s reactions and hearing their feedback was truly eye-opening, it made me realize just how much art can touch people’s lives. This experience strengthened my decision to pursue a career in Arts, and I am excited to contribute my creativity and grow professionally in this field. Of course, there have been challenges along the way, but my passion for art has kept me motivated to push boundaries and explore new possibilities.

Jane, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello, I am Jane Eveshodioni Ugah, a visual artist based in Abuja, Nigeria. With a Bachelor of Arts degree in painting from the University of Benin, I have been fortunate to nurture my passion for art from a young age. I have spent years experimenting with various mediums like acrylic, oil, pen, and pencil. My art is a reflection of my inner world, nature, and existence, into compositions. I strive to capture the essence of my subjects, blending their experiences, strength, and interactions. My artistic style is influenced by everyday moments – like early morning walks, conversations with people, travel, and studio work. Each stroke gives me confidence and a sense of purpose. I am drawn to exploring contrasting themes like fantasy and reality, life and death, and cultural mythology. As I continue on my creative journey, I aim to inspire reflection, action, creating a sense of connection with the viewers to embrace their unique experiences and perspectives.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
My faith and personal growth are deeply rooted in the Bible, which has been a constant source of inspiration for me. I recall a moment when I heard a verse, ‘LUKE 17:6”, I read and it really resonated with me during that challenging time. As a child, memorizing Bible verses has stuck with me into adulthood. Beyond scripture, I’ve read books like “Go in This Thy Might,” “The Secret,” “Eat That Frog,” “Atomic Habits,” and “As a Man Thinketh in His Heart.” These books have transformed my mindset and approach to life and creativity. I am always looking to learn more, whether through books, videos, podcasts, or conversations with creatives and mentors. My goal is to keep growing and learning every day, filtering what I take in, and staying open to new insights and perspectives.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Through my journey as an artist, I been fortunate to connect with fellow creatives, attend art classes, workshops, art talks, and even mentor emerging artists. My artistic practice is all about building community and empowering others to tap into their creativity. Looking ahead, I am excited to give back to the community by creating a vibrant art space where creativity can thrive. I envision this space hosting exhibitions, residencies, and more, bringing people together and establishing connections. By supporting and encouraging those around me, I believe we can all find satisfaction and push the art scene forward.
