Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jane Swane. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jane thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Shoutout to my parents for real. They are both immigrants from South Korea. My siblings and I witnessed first hand a story of an immigrant’s “American Dream”. My dad came here with literally nothing and worked three jobs to support us. By pure example, my parents showed me what hard work and discipline really means, and instilled a great amount of integrity in me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a producer and artist first and foremost. I taught myself how to use Ableton when I first went into college. I decided that, in that new chapter of my life, I wanted to do something that I wanted to do without someone else telling me to. And that something was to learn how to make feelings and emotions out of beats. Now I am a full-time producer. I am blessed to work with many very talented artists and clients that give purpose and drive to the work that I do.
Something that sets me apart from others is being an Asian American, lgbt, woman in the production space. It can feel lonely at times, but I love that. that fuels me more. At the end of the day, my identity does not really matter to me – its the music that matters. None of these labels mean anything if the music is trash. And that’s what I would like people to know.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs are cool. I think we’ll have to wait until they become more standardized. I’ve been involved with an NFT project before. Unfortunately it didn’t pan out, but it introduced me to that particular world. To be honest, I think it’s a little elitist (for lack of a better word), but as long as the NFT provides actual value, I think it can really be cool.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The music is the goal. The music is the mission. I really just want to make music all day. Everything else can follow after. I would like to show that even if you look like me, and are part of the communities that I am in, if you stay true to your craft, you will be successful. We have stories to tell, we have art to express.
