We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jane Iskra. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jane below.
Jane, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I manage my own social media because it allows me to keep my brand personal and authentic. As an elopement photographer who deeply cares about my couple’s story and preferences, it’s crucial what I broadcast on socials like Instagram: my posts need to reflect my style and voice, and doing it myself ensures that everything feels genuine. It’s a balancing act – I’ve learned to focus on meaningful content rather than trying to post constantly (yeah, that’s a downside, but it feels more like crafting something, which I believe to be important to my future clients). It’s more about connecting with people who resonate with my work than chasing likes or trends.
One of the biggest lessons has been setting boundaries. Social media can be overwhelming, so I limit my time on it and avoid doomscrolling, which keeps me focused and inspired for what I truly value in my life. Managing my own accounts has also taught me a lot about my audience: what they love, what inspires them, and how to communicate effectively.
My advice? Stay consistent, focus on what feels true to inner yourselves, and don’t be afraid to experiment to see what works best!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve been photographing weddings for over 15 years already, and it’s been my passion since day one. I actually started when I was 17, taking portraits of girls who, before long, became brides – and that’s how my wedding photography career began! It grew naturally from there, and I loved every second of it. Honestly, what’s better than capturing people on one of the happiest days of their lives?
After some time (roughly 3 years, yes, my wedding photography career just skyrocketed – I was super lucky!), I found myself shooting big, filthy rich weddings, but I realized that wasn’t my thing at all. I craved something more personal, more meaningful, so I shifted to intimate weddings and adventurous elopements. It was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. Now, I get to work with amazing international couples all over the world in incredible places like Bali, Iceland, the Italain Dolomites, Norway, Madeira and many more.
These days, I’m more than just a photographer – I’m an elopement guide and planner, too. Helping couples craft their special day is as fulfilling as capturing it. Seeing their joy, love and excitement motivates me every single time. It’s the best job in the world!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
50/50 Google and Instagram. For the first five years, Instagram was my main focus, and it really helped me build momentum. But then I realized I needed to diversify ways I get clients to avoid being at the mercy of algorithms or my account loosing for any reason. About a year ago, I started focusing on SEO, and it has been a game-changer – it’s already paid off many times over! Now, I feel much more secure and confident in how I attract clients.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being creative is the ability to capture and share emotions in a way that words often can’t. As a an elopement photographer, there’s nothing quite like seeing the joy in my clients’ eyes when they relive their special moments through my work. Knowing that I’ve created something meaningful and timeless for them is incredibly fulfilling. It’s also inspiring to push my boundaries, explore new perspectives, and constantly grow, all while doing what I love.
