We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Janae Samuel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Janae below.
Janae, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I came up with the concept for Golden Haus based off of what I personally wanted in the spa space. Everywhere I looked I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted, all in once place. Growing up my mom was very into self care, and because of that I watched her really take care of herself, and I got to experience the spa atmosphere at a young age and loved everything about it, beginning to end. We would travel and go to different spas and by doing this there was things I loved about all different ones, but not one that had everything I was looking for. A lot of years later, a lot of trial and error, I finally opened up my spa originally under a different name (Well Beyond Beauty, which then was The Golden Hour Spa) to now known as Golden Haus. I dreamed this up in my notes as I stumbled through unforeseen life circumstances, to which then birthed this thriving business. It truly is what we say it is, Where Day Spa, Meets Med Spa ™️! It’s bits and pieces of my personal beliefs regarding skin and self care, mixed with all the luxurious spa experiences around the world. We keep it fresh and innovated, while also keeping true to tried and true, traditional practices.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have been in the industry for 15 years! I have been apart of many different facets of the self care industry. I started off originally doing hair, and quickly finding out that wasn’t what I was passionate about. Then I was a makeup artist for 10 years and got to do so many amazing things, anything from freelance, to runway, to print, commercial, weddings, editorial. I was known as the makeupless makeup artist cause I have always been very passionate about skin health in general. Even doing makeup, skin was always my favorite part. Making sure it’s prepped and primed and ready to go so that your art is conveyed properly. I always knew the end goal was to be an aesthetician. I eventually after my third was done nursing, went back to get my aesthetics license and laser license, and through a divorce, dreamed up by ideal business. With a leap of faith I opened four years ago, and it’s completely changed my life. There’s been so many ups and downs, but it’s all led Golden Haus to where it is today. We have added to our menu so much from the day I opened and have completely scaled and grew beyond what I could’ve ever imagined. We are a full service day spa and medspa! We focus on internal and external health, and believe in the overall person. We do everything from Hydrafacial, nervous system based facials, chemical peels, lasers, laser hair removal, injectables, IV therapy, non toxic nails, waxing, microneedling, weight loss program, organic spray tans, infrared therapy, lashes and brows, and beyond. We believe it’s never a once size fits all, it doesn’t matter what you get at Golden Haus, it’s always guaranteed personalized to you. You will never have the same treatment twice! We are so excited to announce our brand new stand alone building we bought that we are currently renovating and due to open this fall!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think being completely authentic and true to my beliefs. I definitely would say I am in an industry that’s always changing and that people have strong opinions within, and I definitely have some controversial beliefs about esthetics. I think because of that, I have such a niche clientele that truly are my people. I started out completely focused on holistic skincare, which we are still that but now have a dose of the medical side, without it being medical at all. Our aesthetic and atmosphere we provide are unlike anything else in the area. Most of all I think just truly creating personal relationships with our clients. We really want to know you and walk on a long term skincare and wellness journey with you. We want to take our time with you, you’re never just a number and we will never try to sell you something that isn’t for you. We always want to keep that warmed personal touch, that we really have become known for.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I recently took in a business partner, who is incredible. We met at a park, where our kids go to school, and hadn’t ever met. We bonded because I was 9 months pregnant with my fifth child, and she saw I was miserable and had four other kids running around. She herself has 4 boys, and she was wearing scrubs and so I asked what she did. She’s an anesthesiologist, who owns her own anesthesia group and happened to co-own a medspa locally as well! We totally hit it off the moment we met. A few years later we became friends and I convinced her to come finally work for me, and we were a match made in heaven. A few months later it was only natural to discuss a partnership. She’s the bread to my butter, and truly when a partnership is right, and in sync, you’re unstoppable. And of course, we love that we are both moms of many kiddos, and both have owned multiple companies, and still kick ass.
