We were lucky to catch up with Janae Deshanelle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Janae, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Some of the biggest trends I am seeing in the interior design industry are bold color palettes. Neutral rooms are fading away and color is making a comeback. Another trend I am noticing is the personalization of spaces because of the huge work from home shift. One of my most recent clients is a great example of how she wanted her first apartment to be a chic colorful oasis with space for her to work from home, relax, and entertain. She had a white couch she was not willing to get rid of, but wanted everything around the space to bring in bold color. The space is definitely something timeless and will still look great years to come.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Ever since I was in elementary school I would create floor plans and design my own spaces. Any time I would find a blank sheet of paper I would sketch up a floor plan and design the furniture I would imagine inside the space. After finishing my undergraduate degree I received my certification in interior design and have been designing spaces ever since. My main goal is to bring luxury design and optimal comfort to any space. I always want my clients to feel refreshed and joyful when they enter the space(s) I design for them. I am most proud when I can bring my clients wishlist to life!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Referrals and social media are the best source of new clients for me. When people go to my clients spaces and see what I have designed that is a form of marketing which brings attention to my business. While referrals are a great help, my social media is a showcase of my work for those who are unfamiliar with my work.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is visibility on social media and referrals from past clients and friends. New clients can come across my work on my social media pages or on my business website.
