We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jana Seitz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jana below.
Jana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
I’ve had many client success stories and I want to share them all, but I’ll stick with one just due to the huge transformation I have seen with her physically and mentally.
Nona came to me just wanting to get her life back. She wanted to lose weight and just feel healthy again. She started with me during Covid over zoom. At first she wouldn’t even put her camera on. I knew her previously, because our daughters play basketball together. I told her just to start slow and take longer rests if needed. Well fast forward a bit and the camera is turned on and I could see part of her. It was nice to at least see her face and she told me the workouts had been getting easier and her arthritis wasn’t flaring up as much. Fast forward a bit more and she came into full view on zoom and I was blown away at her transformation. She had lost considerable weight and was doing amazing keeping up with the workouts. Soon she was ready to come in person workouts and feel confident.
I’ve seen such huge change in her. She has more energy, she’s more active and she just seems so much happier. She lost weight but came to me one day and said “is there anything at all I can do about this?” She was showing me loose skin around her midsection. I answered honestly “no”. It’s absolutely nothing at all she did or didn’t do. She worked hard, she ate right. There are some things diet and exercise might not be able to fix. I told her she could learn to embrace it. It’s a badge of honor; after all she has 2 great kids, or you can have it removed. She chose to have a tummy tuck and is very happy with the results.
It’s so easy to compare ourselves to others and wish we looked this way or that and feel we have done everything and still failed. It’s so easy to make an excuse, “well, I don’t look like that because I didn’t cheat and have surgery.” Trust me, there was no cheating involved with her and her transformation. She worked HARD to be a candidate for this surgery. I also love that she is willing to share her journey with others. She has truly transformed inside and out and is living life to the fullest now!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I worked in the corporate world before becoming a stay at home mom. After my kids got a little older, I loved going to the gym and got very into fitness and specifically strength training. I got a part time job at my local YMCA and finally convinced myself to get my personal training certification. I love seeing people change; not just physically, but also mentally. I love hearing about the things in everyday life that gets easier as you get stronger. My biggest compliment of all time was having one of my older clients come to me and tell me that she no longer needed help getting her cases of water at Costco! THIS is why I do it!
During Covid I launched my own business, Jana’s Strength Studio. I taught zoom classes to keep many of my clients active and gained some new ones along the way. Eventually that turned into a whole garage gym where I train small groups and do personal training. I’ve also launched an app where you can access a library of workouts to do on your own time. I want to be accessible to as many people as I can. Everyone has something different that motivates them and I love to learn about people and find out what that is.
I would say what makes me different is my personality. I’ve been told I’m very fun and creative. We get the work done, but we don’t do the same old workouts time after time. I love to spice it up snd add a twist. I also care about the whole you, not just what you can do physically or how you can look. What can we do to keep you invested in your health and well being. For my in person classes I love to create a sense of community, I want it to be your place you go to be around people that will lift you up. I want everyone to know their potential.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I’m still working on growing my audience on social media. I created separate business accounts on Facebook and Instagram and started by encouraging all of my other followers to follow those new accounts. I try to post as often as I can and I’ve had a friend help along the way with great ideas. You want to try and post things that are shareable. For instance I’ve done some reels while I’m preparing a high protein, healthy meal. That’s some thing someone will want to save, share with a friend and hopefully start following you to find more. I’ve found it’s also good to talk a little bit about yourself. Your likes and dislikes so they feel more connected to you. It’s also great to be consistent with your posts and figure out the audience you want to reach. I’m still learning and growing though!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I would have to say it’s been through social media. Not necessarily new followers I’ve never met, but acquaintances that have followed my page and learned what I do. I’ve gotten a lot of new clients that way. I also get clients by word of mouth and from my community, I’ve had many recommend me when someone asks for a personal trainer that will come to their home or somewhere they can go locally. Having a website and social media page you can refer them to has proven very helpful, They like to be able to see who you are and what you are about before reaching out.
