Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to J’ana Price. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, J’ana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents taught me about entrepreneurship and how to believe in myself. As a young author and entrepreneur, I’m able to share the gift of creativity with my peers. My parents have also helped me to explore my talents which allowed me to meet some amazing people such as Nakia Dillard, Nikki Turner, and Cathy Hughes. Nakia Dillard is a Film Director and Actor who has appeared in movies such as BMF, Black Lightning, and The Wonder Years. I studied at his acting school called Akian Acts. Nikki Turner is an author and film producer. I was able to meet her and take a picture with her at a local book event. I met Cathy Hughes, the founder of Radio One, at a Meet and Greet breakfast, while she was campaigning for the Casino in Richmond. The last person I would like to mention is my cousin Tray Tillman who is currently on the Hit Show SEVERANCE produced by Ben Stiller. My parents have given me a great start on my journey to explore the world, find myself, and impact others, all at the same time.
J’ana , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into entrepreneurship by watching my father sell his books up and down the East Coast summer of 2020. The thrill of meeting different people and traveling persuaded me toward entrepreneurship. I wrote my first book, “Finding Myself” when I was 5 years old, which got me a lot of attention. Even so, when I went to Film Director Jimmy DaSaints Award Show in Philly he showed me honor, which led to me meeting a talented film director and actor Nakia Dillard who appears on T.V. Shows: The Wonder Years, BMF, and Black Lighting. This would spark my passion for acting.
I create children’s books that promote positive self-imagery and provide entertainment through skits I produce. My brand is “Take Action, Build Your Today.” We stand by the iconic phrase,” The Children Are Our Future, teach them well, then let them lead the way” After speaking to a host of daycares and churches throughout the central VA area, the reaction is still the same. HOPE! The hope is that all our children are not lost, and some will make great leaders, and what they see in me, they can see in their child, which in turn will push their children to greater heights. I plan to expand my brand and its awareness to all social media platforms so that our visibility will be broadened.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
The average kid does not understand what I do every day as an entrepreneur. One of the challenges I face is finding like-minded peers who I can relate to being an entrepreneur.
One of the advantages is I get to travel and participate as a speaker at churches and daycares. I am able to purchase my own clothing and other items because I have a budget, which is also a plus.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My reputation is built off of my ability to not only speak well but also communicate to the world on behalf of kids who want more out of life.
