We recently connected with Jamyiass Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Jamyiass, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I stared off by having passion for art.
I Transition into graphics designs and shooting videos.
One of my main clients needed a logo and cover art it challenge me.
So I took the time to learn photo shop for music-logo and cover art.
The Project came out well that I preferred to do more work for someone else.
I’ve In general I self taught myself how to be a graphic designer by learning from a previous client, and just having a passion for art in general.
Knowing what I know I don’t think I would change my learning process.
Reasons why is due to the fact my in-tress was in multiple places and dealing with each customer I learned some new.
If I could change I would change being more flicks on graphic designer being more locked in
Most Essential is having patient with a customer. That skill is important because you can get a lot changes and a lot of people are on different timing. Patient help you execute the process.
Anther essential skill is listening ,that skill is important because u can miss details when working with someone.
The obstacals that stood in the way of learning more was taking too many inputs. Another one is procrastinating. I think that’s the biggest challenge due to distraction.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Got into graphic design honestly for the purpose of the art. Always was into creating slideshows on windows movie maker and just drawing. I kinda was challenged to learn graphic design by creating music cover art for people. Once i seen and learned what the photoshop software could do it grew to be fun nd seen myself msking this my thing. Far as the business it grew from videography. I started shooting videos off the iphone 4s and needed a name for myself. People were already calling me finesse due to the liking of my favorite two artist at the time which was rocko and future. Was told i had a different type of gift of gab about me which was true. The name finesse was really thrown on me because of that nd my charisma. Even doe i wasnt fully into designs yet, as a videographer i was challenged to do unique effects on videos. People called it designs. It then hit me; My Name Is iFinesseDesigns (i For iphone nd specifying me) and ( finesse because that what i was doing when people had an idea and i brought it to life)
The service i offer is brand building, design creation from; flyers, music art, logos, banners and much more artistic content. Nevertheless im also into the fashion and apparel side of things where i helo manufacturer clothing brand and designs. Thats a self taught skill i picked uo on from middle and high school from either dressing gothic wearing all black or putting on some color to stand out and act a fool. I was misunderstood and just had alot of talent to showcase. I wish i could sew but when it come to the apparel service i deal with vinyl, drg (dorect to garment) and dtf (direct to film)
We also offer printing for customers with one of my loyal out sources that i have been using for years now
Most problems i solve for my clients is just execution of there idea. Sometimes it can be challenging but bringing there vision to life is my job. Which brings me to the business second hand name. Guardian Of Divine Vision. I Live for that Name due to it being the meaning of my birthday but more the less i made it my priority to be the protector of my clients vision by executing and doing the job even if requests are challenging.
Back then i couldnt say what set me apart because i was new to this and treated this as a job. As im older now i can retort to the question by saying i do this for the passion and love of creating. Thats what sets me apart. Alot of others do graphic design for the money. I had to grow out of that mentality because there will be days yu have no work so what are you going to do. I learned to just create and eventually the people will love you and work with you because they see you are serious about what you do. Yet along, im at the point where i feel in live with the passion that i try to find other designers now to outsource some of my projects to:
Im most proud of saying i stayed 13 years down with this. As i started in 2012 and we are heading into 2025.
Another thing im proud of is the amount of people i actually helped and created for. As i go thru folders on my computer my portfolio is actually big. Im very grateful for that honestly.
The last thing i would like to say im proud of is the relationships i built along this journey. Yet there will be more and more relationships established but the ones that understand i have a life even doe my passion is to created i rarely have a hard time from the true bond relationships i build with certain clients. I wish more was like the few i did have but you know everyone cant come with you at the top and thats where i plan to head.
To My New Fans And Followers my message to you all is always believe and dont be scared to let another person try to being your vision to life. I say that because there is plenty of free designs i have done in my lifetime where i did them because i want to see that person exceed. One thing i learned is i want to be around people that motivate me and doing better than me. Thats what pushes me. So if i like an idea and decide to do work for you for free then my expectations is to watch that person grow because i see the potential. Its like me giving that push to someone because i was rarely given that growing up. Another thing i want you guys to know is to understand not just your designer but anyone you work with style, patience and expertise. Dont be intimidated if ideas are changed. Sometimes it takes other eyes to bring something to life that you dont you. Last message would be my motivational quote i been using for a while which is “Vision Without Action Is Only A Dream, so Act Now And Live the Dream”
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
There are a few goals driving my creative journey and im glad you ask. The first goal driving me is to create like this Embassy Where different Brands All Work Together Under One Roof And We Just Out Source To Each Other. similar to how a fee market is set up but with a twist of being there for each other in real life and helping each other with creative projects or etc. Like A Real Business Family Relationship Goal Im Trying To Create. It Necessarily Dont Need A Name Or Title Attached Because When Its Real You Know.
Another Goal Well More Like Mission Im Aiming For that drives my creativity is Being Successful And Leaving This Word With A Legacy From My Work. Not Aiming for Fame But A Legacy, similar to DaVinci, Picasso, Raphael, Virgil and More. i Want To Create A Piece That Will Touch People Like Mona Lisa Did. Crazy Part Is I Dont Know What In Life That Will Be So The Mission Is To Create Create Create Until People Recognize Me And My Work. That Leads Me To My Next Goal.
The Last Goal That Drives Me Is Creating Me!!! What I Mean By that is Each Artist i name for known For something. Yes Im Known To By My Name And Creating but I Havent Figured Out What Is Me And What Will say, “Oh Finesse Created That” At This Point In Time I Do Have Two Ideas. One Is When I Was In School I Would Literally draw a whole maze on a sheet of paper and people would ask what is it and I Would say nothing. They would be fascinated by it and tell me it looks like this or that but in my mind i was drawing ways of escaping the maze. Its hard to explain but i Would Need To Really Recreate it to the world to see. The last idea thats For sure OTW Is A Brand Called SCRBBL. Not Going to get into much details on it but it not just for me but for brands any and everywhere. I think dis will be My Virgil Concept to The World How He Gave Us Pieces For Louis Vuitton and V LoNe.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I Deal With Resilience All the time. I say that because a project could be as simple as A B C or 1 2 3. The Problem Comes In When A Customer or client See How Swift and Calm And Executed They Would Try To Make Changes Or Want to add more when i followed everything they ask for. I come to realize it’s part of the job and to deal with it because it’s my passion and what i love to do. What i learned to do is delay the work more. Which is good and bad but sometimes. I Now Do This Because I Push Back On Other Clients Projects That Would Be Next Or Ahead of a person with a Simple Idea and without them knowing im doing this i have to be resilient with delay the time of getting work created for them. More the less there are times people have tried to assassinate my character by trying to slander my name. Not knowing that I Build Bonds With People and Alot of my clients That they genuinely know me in real life and talk about real life situations besides business. Those situations i love to bounce back from because it shows the character they are because something not going right for them or i dismiss them with either i dont work for free or i cannot take on there project. Thats another thing, its not always about the money and if bad energy comes your way you have every right to not accept work or refuse to work with people. Its your time and peace. There are a few more challenges i deal with but honestly i been thru way more real life situations from where i was homeless and had to live out the hotel and still had to produce tshirts and apparels for customers and get graphic needs completed for them. Felt like i was on borrowed time because i was always busy, working two jobs plus ifinessedesigns. I shook it all off and bounce back and had to find the balance in my life. Made me appreciate my love for Art, Graphic Design and Music More.
