We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jamir Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jamir , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

I remember reading Right On, Vibe and Word Up Magazine and wanting to be an editor as I was mesmerized by the pages and the fashion. I then decided to mirror that into my real life and connect with creatives during the pandemic. Making sure to honor them by telling their stories

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

For all the new readers, I curated The JamirSmithShow Podcast in 2020 to provide a platform for creatives to tell their stories. Recently relocated to Los Angeles. I got into the industry by working in fashion, building relationships and meeting creators during numerous events and experiences in NYC, Atlanta and LA.

What has set me apart from other amazing influencers is we provide a platform for the community of creatives to honor and tell their stories in a positive light. I’m extremely proud of the creative people that have been apart of the podcast.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

During my continuous journey of building this platform, I have learned many lessons but one which has been proven is, PRIDE! Leaving your pride at the door and listening to others by being a sponge. Many people have created strong platforms and being about to not recreate the wheel has been my focus.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?

Reposting, tagging, retweeting and just the small things people can do to support creatives. I have always found it interesting that so many people have creative friends but have never purchased a product, shared an IG story/ post and or partnered with them to support their businesses. The pandemic taught us all how to be resilient and find ways to make money from your passions. If we can all just find ways to support a creative with donations, purchases and or a post we would see a better return in investment.
