We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamil Shakoor . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamil below.
Jamil , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
When I was 16, my parents sat me down and asked me what kind of career did I see myself in? It took some time, but only thing that I really ever thought about as far as a career was to be a chef. Once I told them that they told me “no matter how frustrated or how tired of it you get you’re going to have to work through that because once you start on this career path we’re not going to let you stop until you become successful. You may not like it but it will benefit you the most in the end.” I told them i understood and from that moment my parents had me watching all types of cooking shows, enrolled me in culinary classes at school, got me my very first job at a catering company and even had me taking part in cooking competitions until I graduated from high school. They ensured that I went to a well known culinary school in Johnson and Wales and they were adamant about me going to school out of state for “new experiences and to avoid distractions” so I went to the one in North Miami. They’ve been pushing me every step of the way and I’m grateful because I chose a great career it is something I am truly passionate about and I don’t regret any of it. Its still early in my career but I made it this far because of my family’s teachings.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

The most rewarding aspect for me is the reactions. To watch people try my food for the first time and genuinely like it inspires me to do even better on the next time around so I’m constantly pushing myself to become better
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
A goal that I’m striving for is to one day own a place or be the head chef of a restaurant as we are getting rewarded a michelin star. Michelin stars in the culinary world are the highest level of achievements and to one reach that would be astonishing for me .
