Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Janardana Das. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Janardana Das, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Since October, my life has taken a transformative turn as I fully embraced the path of a monk. I have dedicated my time and energy to serving our Gaudiya Vedanta Outreach center in Hollywood, Florida, under the wise guidance of my guru and esteemed master painter, Srimati Syamarani “Didi” Devi Dasi.
Our collective vision is to extend our reach and establish the Sacred Vedic Arts (SVA) museum and cultural center in Miami. This ambitious endeavor is truly inspiring and goes far beyond personal ambitions.
At SVA, we strive to create a harmonious space that beautifully blends the rich tradition of Bhakti with personal growth, understanding, and a deep commitment to sustainable living. It is a place where spiritual exploration and community engagement thrive hand in hand.
Our vision encompasses a wide range of artistic expressions, including the Visual & Performing Arts, Ceremonial Arts, Literary Arts, and Culinary Arts. By integrating these diverse art forms, we aim to create a vibrant tapestry of cultural heritage that resonates with people from all walks of life. Additionally, we will provide Residency & Guest Facilities, welcoming individuals from around the world to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Vedic arts and spirituality.
Being a part of this exciting project fills me with a sense of purpose and fulfillment. It is an endeavor that extends far beyond myself, aiming to enrich the lives of countless individuals and foster a deeper connection to spirituality and creativity. I am humbled and grateful to contribute to this grand vision that will leave a lasting impact on our community and beyond.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Throughout my life, I have always felt a deep longing to break free and express myself through music. I found myself at odds with societal expectations, which dictated that I should chase the “American Dream.” However, my true desires were rooted in creating music, being part of a vibrant community, and experiencing a life filled with celebration and a profound sense of aliveness.
It was during a transformative music festival in California that I had a life-changing encounter. It was there that I first heard the powerful mantra:
“Hare Krsna Hare Krsna
Krsna Krsna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama
Rama Rama Hare Hare”
This encounter led me to meet a monk who invited me to delve into the secrets of Vedic Cosmology. Through chanting the mahamantra and participating in kirtan, a devotional musical practice, I discovered a profound connection to Krishna, the enchanting blue boy with the flute. This experience ignited a spiritual journey for me, as I realized that when we take a step towards God, He takes a thousand steps towards us.
With a burning desire to share my musical gifts, I initially immersed myself in the music industry by working relentlessly behind the scenes at various music festivals. I embraced every opportunity, from volunteering and performing tasks like picking up trash, composting, providing security, and washing dishes to even contributing to stage construction. Although I was grateful for these experiences, my soul yearned to sing and bring my music to the world.
Fortuitously, I had the chance to work at a yoga festival called Bhakti Fest, where I crossed paths with Srimati Syamarani Didi. Her guidance and empowerment became instrumental in my journey, enabling me to share the Holy Name and navigate the often confusing world of quarrel and hypocrisy.
It was during this time that I introduced my unique musical offering to the world, known as the BUTTER THIEVES. This energetic fusion of mantra, reggae, and hip-hop resonates deeply with festival audiences. By blending diverse musical elements and infusing transcendental mantras with poetic lyrics, I strive to create a style that appeals to the modern ear while conveying a profound message. In addition to this fusion, I also offer traditional kirtan and bhajan styles, reminiscent of the devotional music found in the temples of Vrindavan, India.
What sets me apart in the music industry is my unwavering commitment to creating music that carries true depth and meaning. In a world saturated with shallow lyrics and superficial sounds, I aspire to inspire a cultural shift. I want to convey the message that embracing a love for God is not only acceptable but also cool and empowering. Through my music, I aim to uplift and awaken people’s hearts, reminding them of the boundless beauty and joy that lie within a deep spiritual connection.
Additionally, I occasionally offer lessons in harmonium, guitar, and voice to those true aspirants who seek to explore their musical talents and embark on a profound spiritual journey.
Ultimately, my mission is to infuse the music industry with soul-stirring melodies and lyrics that touch the very core of human existence. I strive to create a cultural renaissance where individuals can rediscover the profound significance of spirituality and celebrate their love for God in an accessible, relatable, and undeniably cool way.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The Bhagavad Gita by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada imparts wisdom that goes beyond the boundaries of time and culture, offering guidance on navigating life’s challenges and finding inner harmony. It teaches us to embrace our unique path and responsibilities, understanding the importance of fulfilling our duties with dedication and a sense of devotion.
One of the profound teachings from the Bhagavad Gita is the concept of not being attached to the fruits of our labor. This principle encourages us to focus on the present moment and the quality of our actions, rather than being consumed by the desire for specific outcomes. By cultivating this mindset, we can experience a sense of liberation from the anxieties and burdens associated with the results of our endeavors.
In addition to the Bhagavad Gita, the book Harmony by Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami Maharaja provides valuable insights on how to effectively navigate our relationships and interactions with others. It offers teachings and practical guidance on cultivating harmonious connections, fostering understanding, and treating others with respect and compassion.
Both of these influential works serve as guiding lights, providing profound wisdom and practical tools for personal growth and spiritual development. They inspire me to lead a life filled with purpose, love, and harmony, and contribute to the betterment of society as a whole.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I am deeply inspired by the teachings of my spiritual preceptors and their mission to aid in the vision of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. My focus lies in contributing my part to a cultural renaissance within the Krsna Consciousness movement through the powerful mediums of music, arts, and dance.
By chanting the holy name and utilizing these creative expressions to spread love, affection, and kindness. I believe that by embracing and sharing these qualities, we can make a positive impact in every town and village around the world.
Ultimately, my goal is to surrender to the grand plan of the Beloved and to let my ego get out of the way.
