We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamiece Spears. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamiece below.
Jamiece, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
My eldest daughter was born February 2012. Shortly after I started making baby gifts, blankets, custom wipe cases, and even bibs. I loved creating and crafting for my client’s special arrivals. Cuddlies by Jay was my first stab of entrepreneurship. It gave me the best feeling. A little known fact to me was my grandma was a caterer and florist which is where my creativity comes from. I had a small child and couldn’t imagine doing what I loved was going to be enough to support our family. From 2012 to 2018 I was helping people making baby gifts, giving them ideas for parties and stuff. It was always so fun for me. Still I couldn’t imagine making it a actual source of income. Well August 2018 I was in a life altering car accident. My Ford Escape was flipped over twice and landed in a McDonalds parking lot. I walked away from that accident unscathed. No broken bones, no internal bleeding nothing. My LLC was officially formed September 2018 and Visionary Affairs was born.
I absolutely wished I would have started in 2012 or even 2014. My business would be in such a different place had I taken the plunge earlier. Sometimes I cant help but be in awe of how my business has provided for me. It was challenged me in ways that nothing else ever has.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jamiece Spears and I am the Chief Visionary Officer at Visionary Affairs. Where from conception to execution we make planning your next affair a flawless experience. I am also a Certified Wedding Planner through the Certified Wedding Planner Society. I have over 15 years of customer service and management experience and it was been instrumental at being a great event planner. I take the reins from my host/client and guide them through the process of planning an event. Whether it’s a wedding, a birthday party, or a networking small business conference, my company handles all the details, gives expert advice, and executes the event on event day. Over the last several months I have added another arm to my business and its an independent travel agency, Visionary Affairs Travel.
I am most proud of a ground breaking ceremony I planned in November 2020. It was an opportunity that stumbled across my desk via a facebook post in a facebook moms group. I remember seeing it and thinking that someone had already been scooped up and selected but I shot my shot anyway. Turns out nobody else had responded and I was the woman for the job. There were a few dignitaries in attendance and as hot as it was my team never broke a sweat. It was when my business really showed me I could do it and I was good at it.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Facebook and fellow vendors are the best source of clients for me. I have found that no matter how many other businesses are tagged on a facebook post there are other people looking at the same post wondering and looking for the same thing. So tag your business, even if you happen to be comment number 146. I typically utilize the same core vendor group to execute events. It helps having a team that you can rely on and they happen to be good referral partners. People do business with people they know, like, and trust always remember that.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
After my car accident I started telling my family it was time for my business to launch. I knew I needed a graphic designer to creating my brand kit included business cards, I wanted to register my business with the state. My uncle gave me $1,000 gift to launch my business. I got my brand kit done, ordered business cards, registered as an LLC and bought my domain and started building my internet presence.
