Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jamie Zayac. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jamie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you’ve thought about whether to sign with an agent or manager?
I will always say that the people in your circle are some of the most important tools of leverage you have. The original agency I signed with was PMTM, which led to an amazing event I had the opportunity of being invited to in LA called Universal Actors Session. This resulted in me getting signed with an agency called Modern Artists Agency for commercial representation in NY and LA. PMTM is an agency local to my hometown. I think these things are the beliefs you have about yourself. If you believe strongly enough of yourself, others will be sold on you as well. Its like a business, except you are the product. Business is easy. Offer something that solves a problem. The problem in acting is that they need to fill the role. Ask yourself, what am I able to offer that no one else can? Knowing what makes you unique is what helps you stand out.

Jamie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Jamie Zayac. I introduce myself by my full name and I own every room I walk into. That is something they teach you when you get into the acting industry. I am an actor, a model, an entrepreneur, and at my core, a registered nurse. I feel like my mission is tied into relating to people, in any form. My acting comes from an immense amount of trauma I have endured throughout my life. I use acting as a way to relate to people and tell a story that people need to hear. My modeling allows me to be expressive in creative ways as well. I tell stories with my body and words. My business is based on allowing for accessible and healthy snacks and was created on the construct of not getting the nutrients I needed when I was recovering from an injury that almost killed me. And as a nurse, I care for whole people, as in mind, body, and spirit. We are all more than what meets the eye. We have all lived through challenges, and we all are going through things no one knows anything about. Kindness is at the core of my being and that is my advice to the readers. Allow kindness to be at the center of everything you do, and when you do things out of love, the universe will allow for more opportunities to be presented to you. Take risks, take chances, and move towards what you love.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I do believe these are the two types of people: non-creatives and creatives. The non-creatives act primarily based on their logic, and the creatives act primarily based on their heart. I believe if everyone followed their heart’s instincts, a lot of people wouldn’t dislike their jobs, the people who surrounds them, and the environment they’re in. Of course logic is involved in decision-making and the practicality of ideas, but it is the very thing that talks you out of the initiative to take action on your dreams and goals. Sometimes, we need to lean into a heart a little more.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I love this question because I’d like to touch more on it. I feel that the mission of my creative journey is kindness and telling a story. As an actor, your job is to bring to life a character who’s traits are written in black ink on paper. You give birth to a creative vision that the filmmaker, the producer, the director, and screenwriter have. You give this character meaning and you get to tell a story. That is why the filmmaking industry appeals to me so much. These are stories that need to be heard. And as an actor, you are in synergy with all of these wonderful people, and the other actors, and the sound and camera crew. There is no experience like being on set. It is surreal when between takes you realize these people believed in you because you believed in yourself.
