We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamie Waller. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamie below.
Jamie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I’ve been in the painting industry since I was 19, I’m now 50. I painted homes to support my music dreams. I played in Rock bands at night in the clubs in Phoenix Az. I did it so I could eat and afford band equipment at first but quickly learned I was good at the customer service aspect of the industry. So, I was quickly moved to a customer service painter. After several yrs. at this I moved to San Diego, Ca in 2006 with my then girlfriend who had just got a job with Sharp hospitals who asked, “do you want to come with?” I said sure. I came here with no job, but I knew I could get one within a short time. I walked across the street from where we moved into by Tamarack Beach and had a job the first week making $15.00 an hour. after several different painting jobs looking for my new painting home, I landed a job at PEEK bros painting. I was a helper at first but within the first 30 days I found myself a foreman with a company van and my own helper making $19 an hour. I thought that was a lot of money in 2007. We eventually ended up breaking up and then I met a girl from who I went to high school with when I was visiting my mother back in Arizona. We decided to move her out here from Az to live with me she had two adorable kids Skylar and Gavin. We tried to survive with two kids in Cardiff by the Sea, Ca on my $19 an hour for a while. Then she became pregnant, and I was going to be a dad to a baby girl. the year was 2008 and Cheyenne Raine Waller was born November 19. all was ok for the time being but then the recession hit and in January 2009 I was laid off from PEEK bros they went from 15 employees down to 6 and I got my laid off just two months after having a new baby in a new city. I was terrified!! I how am I going to afford living in Cardiff and support 3 kids, and I have no job. Well, I decided it was no better time to try and start my own thing. I collect unemployment and starting an online and in person construction school so I could learn the law and business side and prepare to get my license. at this same time, I came the name Maverick paint because my dad had owned a professional gun exhibition business called Maverick Guns. then I bought the domain name to maverickpaintingsandieo.com and begin working with a media group out of Florida called Footbridge media who only handles contractors and trades. All while studying for the exam. I had no idea if this was going to work out at all. My late mom Nancy Waller bought me my first spray rig and I was excited. test time came and I aced both tests in the time they allowed for just one test. i was ready to get it done. that whole process was a major risk and scary as hell. but if you believe in what you’re doing and aren’t afraid to fall every now and then you just keep trying then I say go for it… Now maverick Paint is the premier upscale painting company before Covid 19 hit. now everything we do is a risk it seems. let’s pray for brighter futures and get out there and get shit done to the best of our ability. 2022 is going to be my comeback year and this article is part of that process.
. I live by the old saying ~ “everybody falls down but it’s how you get back up and dust yourself off and keep going that defines who you are” …

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started working in the painting industry for a family friend. My position consisted of prepping and masking all painting surfaces. A year later I was handed a paint brush to create someone’s dream and I fell it love bringing their vision to life. Maverick Paint provides residential/commercial interior and exterior services. What sets us apart from others in the industry is I Jamie Waller am directly involved with every project. Every client is given the attention and respect they deserve.” Maverick Painting is a local, family owned and operated business. “I think contractors have lost touch with their customer’s need to be involved and feel appreciated. Too many painters are focusing on quantity over quality. I take pride in the fact that I have been painting homes for over 25 years. I think my attention to detail and high standards are reflected in every home Maverick Painting works on.”
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
Every painting company has a white van and I wanted to stand out from the norm. I wanted my clients to know Maverick Painting takes pride in the services we offer. We purchased a work truck and designed our wrap. Its has been the best way to reach out to our clients and has significantly increase traffic to our website maverickpaintingsandiego.com

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Maverick Painting is raising the bar. You can expect our staff to be on time, clean cut, courteous and will communicate effectively. Unlike national chain companies, I am always on-site at every job. Most local contractors just drop off materials to a crew and only return to collect a check. For over 20 years have taken pride in personally transforming every home and will see every job through to the very last detail. I feel Maverick Painting is changing the image of a “typical contractor”. No matter the type of project service we provide for you, you’ll always get the best we have to offer here I personally guarantee it. We only use top quality paints and materials from most major brands. The brand of paint we use can be influenced by many factors including customer preference, the nature of the project, and other bid specifications. We pay attention to the details of your project and all your specifications, and give you the best in painting services in the San Diego area.
