We were lucky to catch up with Jamie Roitman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
After my business took off on its own (completely by accident) during the pandemic, one of my friends said I needed to develop this into a business and keep it separate from my personal accounts. This is when I developed Resin Bar Studio, LLC and realized that was solid advice! Ever since, Resin Bar Studio has had its own Instagram, where clients can view my work and decide what they’d like to have created for themselves.
Jamie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a trained opera singer but when the pandemic hit, all of my contracts were canceled. Still feeling the need to fulfill my artistic side, I discovered resin art and realized I was actually good at it! I was posting my creations for fun on social media but then I was being contacted for purchase. This is how the business was born.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
When I price my work, I have to take all aspects of what’s involved into consideration. I think about the product needed and of course the time. If a client is requesting a custom piece, I need to consider that into pricing because some custom pieces require items that I wouldn’t regularly use. I work with wholesalers to get the best pricing I can with certain materials, but that’s only worthwhile if I will need specific items in bulk.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My business is only on Instagram for now. I find it to be the most manageable, especially since I’m a one woman operation. I try my best to create a post or a reel daily, to keep my followers interested in my work. I’ve realized if you slip, you will lose your followers. Reels are the most captivating and followers like them the best because they feel like they’ve stepped inside your studio. I always give credit to the companies’ products I use because many times followers have questions about what specific products I use, especially once they view reels.
