Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jamie Robinson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jamie, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The industry I have been privileged to serve in is one of complexity. While many things are considered to be tried and true, the ability and adapt and evolve is crucial. Navigating the fine line between traditional and cutting edge can be a perilous and treacherous path to navigate. When I began my journey as a Loctician, I was unaware of the challenges I would face due to circumstances beyond my control. Had I been aware of the obstacles I would face it is possible that I would have thought twice before emerging myself and all my energy into such close-knit niche service, but I am so glad that I took the risk and jumped in headfirst. My journey to becoming one of many reputable and trusted Locticians in the area has been both an exhilarating and humbling experience. I have learned things about myself, my community and the positive ways I can contribute to the health and happiness of both.
Jamie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jamie Robinson and I founded Hair Maiden Salon in order to provide an atmosphere that is relaxed and full of my passion – Art! Throughout my career I always dreamed of having an environment that I could call home. My inspiration for the salon was to create an atmosphere for an exclusive group of artists that shared the same drive and passion for the hair and art industry. Though we are a smaller salon, we are very large in life and are always striving to find the next cutting-edge concept or project! My two decades in the industry have given me an appreciation for my passions, photoshoots and education! I love creating one-of-a-kind projects and working with people across a wide range of industries and find meaning in teaching the next generation of artists the ways of the hair world!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Other than basic training and knowledge I think the ability to evolve is so very important in this industry. Not only do you have to stay abreast of the latest trends, but adapting to new techniques and throwing out the old ones is a vital part of remaining relevant and on the forefront of industry needs.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building a reputation in this industry can be a challenge. There is no shortage of service providers in the area and sometimes setting yourself apart can be difficult. Coming up before social media made things simpler. Now you cannot simply rely on word of mouth and the simple value of your services. You must be prepared to be both a hairstylist, photographer and videographer as well as social media marketer. Though we wear many hats the message remains the same – provide quality services in a professional manner – and the rest will work itself out!
