Jamie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I worked in the corporate world for over 20+ years and was feeling quite burnt out and was quite honestly always under paid. In 2017, I had approached my boss at the time to ask for a salary increase because I felt I wasn’t being paid at market rate, and I was turned down. When I was looking at other opportunities, I stumble upon a Wix web design course and immediately got excited. I had always loved graphic design and had actually played around with creating a couple of websites. I ended up taking a week of vacation after completely the course, and decided that I was going to start a design business (well before it was known as a side hustle). When deciding upon a name, I thought about what truly makes me happy – and that is, not letting someone else dictate what I am paid, having freedom, designing and creating, and helping ideas come to life. That’s when I came up with the name Bliss Creative Studio. Within the first day of launching I had my first two clients and knew I was on the right track.
Jamie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started Bliss Creative Studio in 2017, driven by my love for design and wanting to break free from the corporate rut I found myself in.
Initially, I worked with all industries and demographics. However, as a huge advocate and supporter of women-owned businesses, I really niched down over the past two year and that demographic is now my sole focus.
I wanted to create more than just a design hub; I also offer a true commitment to empowering women-owned businesses through elevated and engaging web design and branding. That means truly collaborating to get a sense of their vision for their business, then offering the design solution. Specializing exclusively in this niche allows me to deeply understand and address the unique challenges and aspirations of my clients.
What sets me apart is not just the visual aesthetics I bring to the table, but a genuine excitement for my client’s success. My focus goes beyond design; it’s about fostering a community and providing tailored solutions that resonate with the heart and soul of each business.
I take immense pride in the evolution of Bliss Creative Studio, narrowing my focus to create a more impactful and purpose-driven service. For potential clients and the women-owned business community at large, I want them to know that when they choose to work with me, they’re not just getting a design service; they’re gaining a digital partner that’s dedicated to their growth and success.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My reputation has been built by happy clients whose vision for their business I’ve helped bring to life. I have helped launch many successful businesses and have found that most clients are not gatekeepers. They are happy to share who designed their website (and my signature is always in the footer of every site I build).
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I love it when I can bring all of the elements my client wants to life in a design. Fonts, colors, layout, style, flow – when this all comes together, it’s magic.
