Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jamie Ortiz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jamie , appreciate you joining us today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
Family and friends play an indispensable role in bolstering my business endeavors. Serving as my strongest advocates, they tirelessly promote my products and services within their circles. Their unwavering support is not only appreciated but also essential for the growth and success of my business. A heartwarming example of their support is my Aunt, who eagerly became one of my earliest customers by purchasing one of every item I offer.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a trailblazing entrepreneur and skincare advocate, I’m known as the founder of Espieve Mineral Sunscreen. My journey started with a heartfelt mission to help my son, who struggled with eczema, leading me to develop a gentle yet effective sunscreen solution. Alongside my work with Espieve, I’m also the proud owner of Tru Skin Rituals, a boutique skincare studio in Orange County, CA. Specializing in transformative treatments like Hydrafacial, corrective skincare, anti-aging therapies, and acne solutions, I’ve been honored as the Best Facial Winner on the OC Hot List for two consecutive years. With a dedication to enhancing skin health and confidence, my innovative approach and unwavering commitment to excellence continue to raise the standards of skincare in the industry.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I believe in my resilience. From the outset, I had a clear vision for my sunscreen – from its ingredients to how it felt on the skin. Despite facing numerous rejections from labs hesitant to work with FDA-regulated products like sunscreens, I persisted. Refusing to succumb to discouragement, I persevered through multiple reformulations until finally achieving FDA approval.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In 2009, I made the move from San Diego, CA to Newport Beach, CA and relocated my skin care business. Starting afresh was challenging, especially during a recession when facials were considered a luxury. Regardless, I showed up to work every day, whether I had clients or not. I rented a small treatment room at the back of a hair salon, which lacked windows, AC, or heat. The space was so cramped and dimly lit that I had to position the treatment bed at an angle to fit. However, I made sure to engage with every client who walked through the door, building connections that eventually led to bookings for facial services.
