We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamie Ojeda. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamie below.
Hi Jamie, thanks for joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
I currently work in the medical field as a Patient Access Scheduling Representative. Looking back to my first experience when I first joined the medical field, I was employed at Saint Luke’s Hospital at the main campus location. At the time, I was an operator for the entire hospital. The memory that I hold onto while I was employed there, is an incoming phone call from one of my patients and she wanted me to help with a call to her brother. She wanted him to know that she was living her last moments and wanted to hear his voice. My heart had hurt for her, because she hadn’t spoken to him in years over a disagreement they had with each other. I didn’t hesitate to help her; I called the number she provided to me, which turned out to be the wrong number. That moment opened my eyes to look at life differently. I learned that life is too short to have disagreements because one day you may not be able to reconnect.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I would describe myself as someone who is passionate about helping my community and using my passion to help others in every aspect of my life. Some of my passions include: cooking, baking, discovering ways that I can help community agencies. I would also describe myself as someone who is outgoing, empathetic, and cares deeply for others.
I currently work with children and adults at University Health. I do not have children of my own but, I do have nieces, nephews, family and friends that have children that are important to me that look up to me. I have a God child that I’m always checking on, and try to spend time with her when time allows. During our quality time together we will bake together, our favorite thing to bake together is chocolate covered strawberries. In my opinion, I feel I make a huge impact on all the children that are in my life.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I honestly would not change anything about my life, or the course of my life. I enjoyed being a cake decorator and working in a bakery because my passion and career intertwined into one. Currently, working in the medical field I have discovered a new passion for helping others and being the first face they see when they enter the clinic. I take pride in being the first face they see and creating a welcoming environment in the clinic. In addition, I am the front office interpreter, being able to serve the Spanish speaking community in our clinic is another skill I am happy to share with others.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped build my name around the Kansas City metro area is me posting my cakes on social media platforms, the shares, likes from others, and word of mouth from others of my cake decorating.
I hope to continue to build my reputation within the KC area by fueling my passion for helping others by volunteering at local agencies in my community. I am proud of where I come from and the community I was raised in. I hope to be able to give back not only my time but the medical knowledge I have gained in the last 5 years of my career.
