We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jamie Minyard a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
My entire life has been a constant web of dreams. Dreams to become a successful business woman in the sports industry, or own my own business, a coffee shop perhaps. Dreams to inspire young ladies through the art of dance. I was lead to the education world through certain windows of opportunity that presented itself at the perfect time. After being in education for almost a decade, I felt a nudge of encouragement to finally click go on my dream of being my own boss. The idea of having something that I could call my own has always been so fascinating, so simply put, I just started discussing business names and dreaming of logos with my husband and friends. Once we settled on a name that felt right, I began researching strategies, logos, and LLC options. I enlisted the help of friends and mentors who are in the field of business to help with website design, marketing ideas and process encouragement with the legal filings. Within two weeks, I had secured domains, emails and social media platforms to help launch my baby! It was such an exciting feelings seeing it come to life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a dance teacher, turned business owner who has a keen eye for detail. I have always been the girl who is constantly “putting things back where they go” or moving that gadget one more inch to the left to make sure it fits perfectly with the space its given. I decided to put my organization skills to use by helping others get sorted out and decluttered. I know there is a need for organization and I want to be the go to company that people in my market call for all things declutter and organize. I want my clients to feel comfortable with the process as well as judgement free. Ultimately, a happy feeling when my service is done. Happy Shelf Organizing will provide a seamless process from design to containment of the space that needs organizing.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being creative with an organizing service is being able to leave a client’s home knowing you are helping them live in a more functional space. Knowing that they can easily access items on a daily basis, or have the opportunity to put things back where they found them without causing more clutter. Easy, happy, convenient daily systems that make life better. The rush you get when items fit perfectly in the bin you measured to fit the shelf is most certainly the best feeling! When the containers your planned on paper show up on the shelves in real life, creating a picture of order and neatness. Deep breaths of relief are to be had.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I love the question, “is your space still functional for you?” Following up with clients a week or two after the service to make sure they’re still able to maintain the organization system I implemented is key. If it’s not, then I offer follow up services to make sure it’s all put back together again. I want my clients to be able to learn how to keep their space organized with ease. Every space in the house should be a Happy Shelf space with discounts on continued organizing within their home from kitchen to bathroom. Fostering the relationship with the space and client is key by communication and engagement. Follow up calls, emails and even gift packages.
