Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jamie Lyon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jamie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe it takes many things to be successful, but the most important thing is making a positive difference through my form of art and expression. I want people to enjoy looking at or wearing my creations, and also to feel inspired to pursue their own interests. I also believe that being passionate, persistent, and keeping my eyes on the end goal is important for success. I remind myself to count my blessings each day and focus on the good and know that I can overcome any challenge and better is yet to come. A positive mindset and being thankful is key. Also, having amazing friends/creative’s in the community who have collaborated for photo shoots and fashion shows means a lot to me. I believe Team Work makes the Dream Work, but I also have to put in the time and effort on an individual level including design, pattern making, sewing, promoting, etc.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Electric Lyon Fashion is a clothing brand created for the “Rock Stars At Heart”! The expressive, bold, and unique fashionista’s who love music and art and just being themselves. I had always been creative since I was young, and always wanted to find clothing that was unique and style outfits. I used to thrift shop, cut apart clothing and up-cycle/re-design them. I started out in the Fashion industry in 2010 after completing my education in Apparel Design And Production and worked as a Technical Designer for a Casual Wear Fashion company in Brooklyn, NY for 2 years. Then I moved back to Arizona and started Electric Lyon Fashion in 2015. I’ve participated in 10 fashion shows, 6 photo shoots, and 3 vendor events. I’ve also created some custom designs for local music artists/vocalists which they rocked during their live shows. One thing that separates me and my brand from some others is simply creating what I envision vs. following fashion industry trends. The fabric often inspires the design, but I am also influenced by songs/lyrics and album art and the 1970’s and 1980’s. I combine comfort and style, so I tend to work with a lot of knits and stretch fabrics. You can find my designs on Facebook, Instagram, and DePop by searching “Electric Lyon Fashion”.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being real, genuine, kind, passionate, and humble. I believe my creativity is a God given gift that I was meant to share with others so it is never about me, but instead, it’s about how I can use this gift to positively inspire and/or influence others. I’m great with communication/networking since I love people. Therefore, I feel like most of the people I’ve met along this journey have noticed that I am just having fun doing what I love so they want to join in and collaborate, weather it be modeling my designs, photographing them, doing hair and make up for models, etc. I bring the up-beat positive energy to fashion shows and shoots and our team always has fun and rocks the designs like they truly are. “Rock Stars At Heart”!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word or mouth and participating in local fashion shows. I’ve connected with new people from referrals for custom orders, and other people find out about Electric Lyon though fashion show events and social media.
