We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jamie Lopez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jamie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
As the founder of Empower Her Mind Nonprofit organization for women and women entrepreneurs, the idea for this business stemmed from a personal journey of empowerment and growth, as well as being inspired by my mother’s role as a community leader. I had faced numerous challenges and obstacles in my own life as a woman, from gender bias in the workplace to struggling to find support as a female entrepreneur. Witnessing my mother’s dedication to serving and leading her community also played a significant role in shaping my vision for Empower Her Mind.
The context of starting Empower Her Mind was born out of a deep desire to create a platform where women could come together, support each other, and uplift one another, just as my mother had done in her community. The circumstances of witnessing the struggles faced by women around me, coupled with my own experiences and my mother’s example, ignited a fire within me to make a difference and create a community where women could feel empowered and supported.
The emotions behind starting this nonprofit were a mix of determination, empathy, and excitement, fueled by my personal experiences and my mother’s influence. I knew that there was a need for a platform like Empower Her Mind that focused on women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship. The logic behind this endeavor was clear to me – I saw a gap in the market where women were not receiving the support and resources they needed to succeed. I believed that by offering a unique approach through mentorship, networking opportunities, and educational resources, we could truly make a difference in the lives of women.
I felt that I was solving a problem that no one else was addressing adequately, drawing inspiration from my mother’s leadership and community involvement. I was offering a holistic approach to women’s empowerment that encompassed personal development, career growth, and entrepreneurship. This idea got me most excited because I knew the impact it could have on the lives of women who were struggling to find their voice, pursue their dreams, and break through barriers.
In summary, the journey of creating Empower Her Mind was driven by a personal mission to empower and uplift women, inspired by my mother’s example as a community leader, and fueled by a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of others. The belief in the power of women supporting women and the passion to create a community where women could thrive were the driving forces behind this endeavor.

Certainly! Building an audience on social media for Empower Her Mind was a gradual process that involved a combination of strategic planning, engaging content, and consistent interaction with our followers. Here are some key steps and advice for those looking to build their social media presence:
1. Define Your Brand and Audience: Before diving into social media, it’s important to clearly define your brand identity and target audience. Understand who you are as a brand, what you stand for, and who you want to reach with your message.
2. Choose the Right Platforms: Not all social media platforms are created equal, so it’s important to choose the platforms that align with your brand and where your target audience is most active. For Empower Her Mind, we focused on platforms like Instagram and Facebook, where we could easily connect with our community.

4. Consistent Posting Schedule: Consistency is key to building a loyal audience. Create a posting schedule and stick to it. Whether you post daily, weekly, or monthly, make sure you are consistently providing value to your followers.
5. Interact with Your Audience: Social media is a two-way street. Engage with your followers by responding to comments, messages, and questions. Show appreciation for their support and create a sense of community by fostering conversations.
6. Collaborate with Influencers and Partners: Collaborating with influencers, partners, or other brands in your industry can help you reach a wider audience and build credibility. Consider partnerships or collaborations that align with your brand values and goals.
7. Use Analytics to Measure Success: Utilize social media analytics to track the performance of your posts and campaigns. Identify what content resonates with your audience and adjust your strategy accordingly.
8. Be Authentic and Genuine: Authenticity is key to building a loyal following on social media. Share your story, values, and journey with your audience in a genuine and transparent way. Show your personality and connect with your followers on a personal level.
Building a social media presence takes time and effort, but with a clear strategy, engaging content, and consistent interaction with your audience, you can successfully grow your following and create a strong community around your brand. Good luck!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My story! Wow never thought i would have to courage to writ about this, let alone let others know. But I hope this brings hope to other women who have been through something like that. We as women talk about the challenges of divorce from a spouse. But we never talk about the hurt of broken friendships. I understand how challenging and painful it can be to experience betrayal and loss of friendships, especially when those friendships were deeply meaningful to you. I have also faced similar struggles in my journey to support and uplift women.
There was a time when I felt intimidated by the idea of helping women because of past experiences where my trust was broken and friendships were shattered. I had invested so much time and effort into these relationships, only to have them dissolve due to misunderstandings and conflicts fueled by social media.
The pain of losing these friendships left me feeling isolated and betrayed, and it took me years of therapy and consistent support to heal and rebuild myself. I had to learn how to navigate through the aftermath of these broken relationships, and it was a long and difficult process of self-discovery and growth.
Despite the challenges and setbacks, I refused to let the actions of a few individuals deter me from my mission to empower and uplift women. I found strength in my resilience and determination to keep pushing forward, even when it felt like starting over from scratch.
Through this journey of healing and self-discovery, I have learned valuable lessons about the importance of resilience, forgiveness, and the power of perseverance. I have redefined my understanding of true friendship and now prioritize relationships built on trust, respect, and mutual support.
While the scars of past betrayals may still linger, I have emerged from these experiences stronger and more committed to advocating for the well-being and empowerment of women. I continue to navigate the complexities of human relationships with a newfound sense of resilience and empathy, knowing that my past struggles have only made me more equipped to support and uplift others.
I hope that my story serves as a reminder that resilience is not about avoiding pain or hardship, but about finding the courage to face adversity, heal from past wounds, and keep pushing forward towards a brighter and more empowering future for ourselves and others.
