We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jamie Lemaire a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jamie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
When I was naming my business I wanted something catchy but also something that represented me. I’m a daydreamer, I am always daydreaming about things I want to accomplish, places I want to travel to, and things I want to create. I have been this way as long as I can remember. I figured that there had to be more people like me that catches themselves daydreaming all the time like I do. So, I named my business daydreamers by design and all my followers and customers are called daydreamers.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I began my journey because I enjoy doing arts and crafts and I really needed something to keep me busy while my family is away at school and work. I was going through depression and I needed to get out of that rut I was in. See, I was diagnosed with bipolar and ADHD in high school.. I struggle daily and this business and all the support and new people that have come into my life have helped me tremendously. I think I just needed to feel like I was doing something with my life, a drive, a purpose. So, I started designing and creating faux leather earrings for women. It makes me so happy when I get a great review on Etsy and I’ve made someones day by creating something that made them feel beautiful. Everyday, on my business page, I not only post about the products I’ve made but I try to post something positive. Not only for others to see but reminders for myself also. I want my customers and followers to know that If I can get up everyday and do this they can accomplish anything they put there minds to.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Having an online business has not been that easy. It’s definitely something you have to work at every day. I haven’t made as many sales as I would have like to in the past year since I opened shop but, I have never given up. Sure, I have my down days but, I continue to get up daily, post about my products, keep up with my followers, and create new things. I believe if I’m going to be successful I have to keep going.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I used to think because of my mental health issues that I would never become anything. I felt like a loser and that I would never accomplish anything in my life. I would lie in bed day after day doing nothing because I did not believe in myself. I had to change that and my thinking process so, with the support of my family I have come a long way. I learned that I do have a purpose. I want to show other people that struggle that they too can accomplish anything if they just believe in themselves.
