Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jamie Kinross. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jamie , thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think the BEST way to be successful in your business is to be your authentic self! You can always be taught business specific techniques and skills. You will be much happier in your business if it’s true to YOU. There are hundreds (if not, thousands) of people with the same exact business model (or product) as you. ONE thing you can guarantee they don’t have is you. Your heart, your spirit, your personality, your passion, your drive, your desire. Authenticity is a major factor in success, in my opinion.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi! My name is Jamie, I’m a 27 year old interior decorator and home decor content creator. I reside in Utah with my husband, 4 dogs, and our twin babies!
My love for design started young, and continued through college, as I received a certificate of Design from my local university. Shorty after college I worked for a local custom home builder, Magelby Construction. While working as an office assistant, my husband and I began renovating our first home. I started sharing the renovations of our 1929 home on the internet as a creative outlet, and quickly grew a following. I started accepting clients for design consults and within a year of balancing my full-time corporate job and working with my own clientele, I decided to pursue a path in owning my own business. I come from a family full of entrepreneurs, so this was not a new concept to me. Along the way I also started sharing home decor finds, and creating home decor based content for brands.
I now run my business as a one-woman show and offer home interior services, as well as brand content work for companies! We recently welcomed a baby boy and baby girl into our family and I am blessed to have the opportunity to stay home with them, while still providing these services to my clients!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Very quickly into my career path I had to learn that I cannot do everything on my own.
As a very determined and dedicated individual I found myself completely overworked and consumed by my workload. I was still working full-time for a corporate company, and running my own business on the side, which meant nights and weekends. I came to realize 1. It was time to leave my corporate job if I really wanted to pursue my own business as it grew. 2. I needed to rely on others for help where it was needed!
Giving up a set income was a big mind game for me, and I had to learn to lean on my husband as I made the transition to being a full-time business owner! By allowing myself the time to put towards my own designs and trusting in the help I’d been offered my business began to flourish!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media is one of the BEST sources of free marketing to ever exist. You used to have to pay loads of money for anyone to see what you were promoting.. now it’s literally at everyone’s fingertips. For FREE.
My biggest advice is to treat social media as a business tool. Consistency is key. If you don’t show up to work, you won’t get paid. Social media is no different. If you don’t put in the work, you will not receive the benefits.
My biggest belief is authenticity matters. Show up on your social media as your true authentic self. People want to work with you for you, not just your skill set.
By sharing things you’re passionate about and truly care for people will naturally gravitate towards your business and your social media presence.
