We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamie Hizer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamie below.
Jamie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My husband and myself built a vintage window greenhouse when we moved into our house. I sourced the majority of the materials and we spent 2 months building it. I started filling it with vintage garden items and antiques. A real place of peace. We host baby showers, bridal showers, tea parties, elopements, engagements, family sessions and more. I only bought pieces I truly loved so I didn’t want to get rid of them as the decor changed for the next season. Eventually, I built stock, rented a warehouse, and started renting out pieces. The “side business” continued to grow and my rental business was born. We specialize in vintage and antique rentals for all events.
Jamie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a nurse full time with a passion for gardening. Once we built my greenhouse and it grew as a business, it fueled my passion for vintage and antique pieces. I love the high end look of the pieces and there is a nostalgia attached to our pieces that can’t be evoked with generic pieces. I love when we set a reception table and guest exclaim over our vintage goblets or, when they sit down to their place setting hearing them connect that the pattern at their seat or their neighbors is the one their grandmother or aunt used to have when they did Sunday dinners or celebrations. When we consult with a couple, we ask them their colors and build their design from that. We can be as elaborate or simple as they wish. Either way, our pieces are about connections.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
This question always makes us laugh! You will frequently hear us call each other “Sis”. We look enough alike that people frequently assume we are sisters. Truthfully, I am the first ex wife and she is the second. Our children are siblings so we put aside differences to figure out how to get along for their sake. Our common goal was being an example to our children and building a legacy for our kids.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We are a newer business so we are still learning the social media structures. We post frequently and don’t stress if our post doesn’t get a lot of likes. We realized that there is an algorithm that changes frequently. We make it a priority to collaborate with other vendors in the business and credit them properly when we post. This fosters our relationships with other businesses and lets our clients know the level of services they can expect. Our advice is continue to consistently post. Your post can inspire your clients, let them know if you are a good fit, and show your skills and talents.
