We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jamie Graber a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jamie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
It’s funny, I’ve been asked many times about what the defining moment was that changed my career and I don’t know that there really is one. I think all of our little choices each day are what become those larger defining moments. So I wouldn’t say it was my defining moment, but there were defining choices that lead to where I am now.
When I first started coaching, I would run around the city renting spaces by the hour, dragging my crystals with me. After a while, it became obvious that I needed a part-time office.
Whenever I would meditate on it, I saw myself in an office in the Soho area of NYC, surrounded by crystals. The only catch was, when I would visualize myself walking there, I would go in the complete opposite direction of Soho.
A few weeks later, on a flight to LA, I found an ad for a full-time office…in the opposite direction of Soho. If not for my meditations, I never would have considered this area or a full-time space, but I knew I needed to check it out.
Turns out it was EXACTLY what I had been seeing in my meditations. It was such a wild moment, and I felt like the office was going be a turning point in my career. So I signed the lease.
One weekend, my parents came to see the space.
My mom immediately said: “Maybe you can find a friend to rent it with you and help you make the payments.”
My dad, however, beamed: “You’re going to outgrow this office quickly!”
I had to make a choice of which storyline to believe: I could choose my fears, or I could choose to take myself into the possibility that I would outgrow it.
In that moment, I decided to step into the vibration that would lead to me growing out of the office.
I look at that decision as the one that catapulted me into the success I have now. I believe I truly became a coach in that moment. And not just any coach: a successful coach.
A LOT of inspired earthly actions had to happen, but within six months, I had people on a waitlist and I moved into a bigger space. And from there, I just kept growing.
I now have a full roster of private clients, run a group coaching program and am a business consultant for several organizations. It’s been a trip, but I’ve truly loved every moment.
I really believe that it’s not about where you are when you start; it’s about who you decide you are becoming, and the actions you take to become that.
Jamie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a business consultant and mindset coach known as “The Queen of Shifting”. I blend the mystical with the practical, and show people from all walks of life and in every corner of the globe how to take their good lives and turn them into great lives.
I’m best known for my ability to articulate the esoteric in a way that is easily digestible. I hold space for powerful transformation in all those who work with me, using the subconscious mind and yogic principles to create lasting change. As a business consultant, I help my clients efficiently and effectively build and run their companies from an inspired and aligned perspective.
I am driven by my lifelong curiosity of how people become the best possible versions of themselves. That led me to major in Philosophy and eventually immerse myself in yogic teachings and spiritual wisdom. I used to struggle with debilitating anxiety and an eating disorder, and once I began to embody those teachings, I witnessed my own life transform from challenging to good…until eventually, I realized I am living a life that is beyond my wildest dreams.
I am the author of “Juice It, Blend It, Live It” and the former owner of Gingersnap’s Organic vegan raw food restaurant in NYC that focused on spirituality and community building. It was through my work at Gingersnap’s that I began coaching, and as my work with clients deepened and expanded, I closed the restaurant to focus on what became clear was my life’s calling.
My own transformation is the inspiration for my work, and I am beyond thrilled to have served and inspired thousands of people all over the globe. I am most proud of my integrity, and my devotion to clients and their dreams.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I’ve been a mindset coach for many years now, but at a certain point I realized that I have a special talent for business coaching. It actually revealed itself through the act of business coaching, which came about naturally through client sessions. At first, I only did it when it came up organically, but at one point, I noticed that was what I was spending most of my time talking about, so I knew I needed to pay attention.
The truth is, I never set out to be a business coach. The market is completely saturated with that right now, and in truth, what I do is incredibly different from what other spiritual coaches who transition into business do. I also didn’t want to let go of my other coaching – I love going deep with my clients and helping them navigate all the different things that come for them. I’ve helped so many people shift their lives from good to great, and I will always be passionate about that.
But I had to create space for the work that the universe was pointing me towards. I had to allow my career to naturally pivot in the direction it was pivoting in.
That’s when I realized: I’m more of a business consultant than I am a business coach. Unlike many business coaches, I don’t work with just broad concepts. I get into the actual organization of my clients’ businesses, and help them streamline, plan and execute intelligent strategic plans. I help them build their actual businesses into what they want them to be, and put the systems into place so they run in a way that feels good and supports them fully. I work with their employees to maximize efficiency and motivation, and offer services to integrate meditation and mindset tools into the workplace.
I am currently only working with existing clients, but I’ve also created a small group mentorship program (that will go live in September) to make myself more accessible to people who want to work with me but aren’t on my schedule.
I truly never imagined that I would be doing this kind of work, but I am so glad I paid attention to the signs and allowed myself to be guided into it. It was an unexpected, but very easy and natural pivot that I am very proud of (and very good at).
Any advice for managing a team?
One of the things I do as a business consultant is go into a client’s organization and work with their employees to boost and build morale. I lead talks, workshops and teach meditations to help employees stay energized and happy – and they LOVE that as a perk – but the truth is, the most important thing I do is teach upper management how to interact with their team to create a corporate culture that makes everyone feel like a vital part of the equation.
It’s important to remember that everyone from the top – down needs to feel seen and valued. When you run your business from this kind of humanistic standpoint, you view all of your employees as a vital part of your business. In doing so, you understand that they want to win just as much as you do. And by valuing and considering their ideas and viewpoints, you create more opportunities for those wins to happen…which means more wins for the organization.
I believe it is important to be patient, kind, interested, and open to every employee at every level. It’s not only important because that’s how all people deserve to be treated, but also because it fosters a sense of loyalty and dedication within the organization itself. People WANT to do the things that make them feel good. I help my clients implement different policies and programs to help ensure this value system is central to the culture of their businesses.
When you’re working in an environment where everyone feels important, that creates a sense of alignment and loyalty. And when everyone feels aligned with the company mission and vision and empowered to use their gifts to support that mission and vision, it’s ultimately a better outcome for your business.
