We were lucky to catch up with Jamie Gonsioroski recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jamie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
After having my first baby in 2019, things really shifted for me. I was working in a management role in a large metro hospital and the stress of the job with the transition into parenthood really rocked my world. I knew I wanted to pursue something that allowed me to stretch my creative muscles and provide a bit more flexibility. I spent the next many months researching, learning, taking online courses, and really just figuring out what I wanted to do. I’d always had an interest in web design and in 2020 amid a global pandemic I launched my business. I originally sought to support women-owned small businesses, but very quickly found my niche supporting birth, motherhood, and parenting focused businesses. There aren’t many other brand and web designers that support that niche and it was something I was not only passionate about, but also knew a lot about so it felt like a natural fit. And, supporting those businesses really felt good.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a brand and web designer specializing in heartfelt, birth, parenting and mother-focused businesses. While I have a decade of experience in healthcare working in laboratory science and management after I became a parent and the stress of a global pandemic, I knew I needed to shift gears. My business originally started as a fun, creative outlet, but fairly quickly became something bigger and more profitable.
I help my clients gain deep insight into the heart and soul of their business so that they can communicate what it is they do through aligned visuals and messaging. I don’t just do “pretty design” and logos, everything I create is based on a deep understanding of a client’s mission, vision, and goals and how that can be presented to attract their clients. So yes, my clients get pretty branding and a website, but they also know it’s built on strategy and intention. I also strive to do all of this as streamlined as possible and I’m very proud to say all of my clients find it surprisingly easy to work with me and enjoyable.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think the biggest factor in building my reputation was that I have always put a focus on creating a simple and easy process of working with me. I strive to make every interaction and contact point from the booking the initial consult call through project completion easy for the client. I also work within a specific niche and am an expert in those markets which my clients appreciate.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
This is perhaps a bit controversial, but the online business world is flooded with business coaches and the importance of having one. I really think business coaching is overrated. Early on in my business I bought into the idea that I needed a business coach to grow my business. I ended up investing quite a bit into a coaching program that simply did not bring me results. Investing doesn’t always result in a return and I think it’s wise to be very discerning and a bit skeptical. There is definitely a time and a place for investing in coaching, but I truly do not believe anyone NEEDS a coach to grow a thriving business.
