Hi Jamie, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
One of the best ways I show my clients how much I appreciate them is through my lashiversary gifts—a little tradition I started to celebrate and thank my loyal clients for their continued support. Every year on their lashiversary (the anniversary of their first appointment with me), I put together a thoughtful beauty kit full of luxe products just for them. It’s my way of saying, “Thank you for trusting me, for sticking with me, and for allowing me to be part of your beauty routine.”
I genuinely believe that my clients are the heart of my business, and their support means everything to me. These gift bags aren’t just about the items inside—it’s about making them feel valued and reminding them how much I appreciate them choosing me, time and time again.
I remember one client in particular who was so touched by her lashiversary gift that she teared up, saying she had never had a service provider go out of their way to make her feel so appreciated. That moment really stuck with me because it reinforced why I do what I do—not just to create beautiful lashes, but to build lasting relationships and make my clients feel special.
At the end of the day, I want every client to know that they are more than just an appointment on my schedule. They are part of my journey, and I wouldn’t be here without them. Hi! My name is Jamie, and I’m the owner of J. Marie Lash & Beauty. My journey into the beauty industry was something I never expected, but now, I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’ve been a lash artist and business owner for over four years now, specializing in customized lash extensions that perfectly cater to the busy woman on the go. Whether it’s soft and timeless Angel lashes or dramatic, luxurious Mega Volume lashes, I offer a range of styles to suit every client. My specialty however is natural, wispy lashes with long-lasting retention. Perfecting this craft has taken years of dedication, and knowing I can offer my clients results that not only look beautiful but truly last is something I take immense pride in.
But for me, lashing is about so much more than just lashes—it’s about connection, confidence, and creating an experience where my clients feel truly valued. I want every woman who walks through my doors to leave not only loving their lashes but also feeling seen, cared for, and confident in their own skin. What truly sets me apart, and what I value is my commitment to quality, expertise, and personalized service. I use only the highest-quality products and advanced techniques to provide results that are not only stunning but long-lasting. But beyond just beautiful lashes, I strive to create a space where my clients can truly unwind, knowing they’re in expert hands. Comfort, relaxation, and building lasting relationships are at the heart of every appointment.
I know how busy life can be, and I understand that my clients don’t always have time for an extensive beauty routine. That’s why I focus on creating lash extensions that make life easier. My clients no longer have to deal with mascara, strip lashes, or smudging makeup—they wake up every morning feeling effortlessly put together. I also take great care in mapping each set to complement their unique eye shape, lifestyle, and personal preferences, ensuring that their lashes not only enhance their beauty but also feel natural and comfortable.
My path to this career was anything but traditional. I explored different industries—from hospitality to marketing—but nothing ever felt like forever. It wasn’t until 2020, when I was furloughed from my marketing job, that I finally took a step back to reassess what I truly wanted. That’s when I decided to take a leap, enroll in esthetician school, and start my journey as a lash artist. After obtaining my license, I began perfecting my craft by taking on models, and before long, I opened my own studio in Oceanside, CA. It was one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made, but it has turned into the most fulfilling and rewarding career I could have ever imagined.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just my work—it’s the relationships I’ve built with my clients. Seeing their excitement, their confidence, and even the relief that comes from knowing they no longer have to spend extra time getting ready in the morning—that’s what makes it all worth it. It’s those little moments when a client looks in the mirror and says, “Wow, I feel amazing!” that remind me why I love what I do.
Looking ahead, I’m beyond excited to expand my services later this year—something I’ve been dreaming about for a long time. I can’t wait to bring even more to the women who have supported me every step of the way.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
For me, growing my clientele has never been just about numbers—it’s been about building real connections, creating a welcoming space, and making every client feel truly valued. The most effective strategy has been a mix of genuine relationships, exceptional service, and sharing my passion through social media.
From day one, I’ve poured my heart into creating an experience that makes my clients feel beautiful, confident, and cared for. I truly believe that when people feel seen and appreciated, they naturally want to share that experience with others. Word-of-mouth has been one of the biggest drivers of growth for my business. Knowing that my clients trust me enough to recommend me to their friends and family means the world to me—it’s the greatest compliment I could receive.
I also focus on consistency in both my work and the energy I bring to each appointment. Every lash set I create is carefully tailored to enhance my client’s natural beauty, and I’ve spent years perfecting my retention techniques so they can enjoy their lashes for as long as possible. But beyond the results, I want every person who walks through my doors to feel relaxed and cared for. My studio isn’t just a place to get lashes—it’s a place to unwind, take a deep breath, and leave feeling refreshed and confident.
Social media has been another amazing way to grow and connect with new clients. I don’t just use it to showcase my work—I use it to share my passion, educate clients, and let them get to know me as a person. I want potential clients to feel comfortable before they even step into my studio, and being able to communicate and engage with them online has been a huge part of that.
At the heart of everything, I truly believe that when you lead with passion, kindness, and integrity, people feel it. My business has grown because I put my whole heart into what I do, and I genuinely care about each and every client who chooses to trust me with their lashes. It’s not just about lashes—it’s about making people feel amazing in their own skin. And when you focus on that, growth happens naturally.


What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that I had to do everything perfectly—or not at all.
When I first started my business, I put so much pressure on myself to have it all figured out. I thought every step had to be flawless—the branding, the client experience, my lash technique, social media, everything. I was constantly comparing myself to other artists who had been in the industry longer or looked like they had it all together. And while that drive helped push me to learn and grow, it also created a lot of unnecessary stress and self-doubt.
The truth is, perfection isn’t real—but progress is. And I had to learn (and re-learn) that it’s okay to make mistakes, to evolve, to grow as I go. Some of my biggest breakthroughs came from moments where things didn’t go as planned—like taking on a difficult lash model early on or struggling to balance everything behind the scenes of my business. But those challenges taught me so much more than any perfect day ever could.
I’ve learned to give myself more grace, to trust my process, and to celebrate how far I’ve come—even when it doesn’t look perfect. Because at the end of the day, this journey is mine, and the most important thing is that I’m showing up with heart, with intention, and with a real love for what I do.
Unlearning perfectionism allowed me to embrace the messy, beautiful parts of growth—and that’s where the magic really happens.
