We recently connected with Jamie Bell and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
We can all be disappointed when friends and family don’t buy from us, comment on our business posts, or attend our events … after all, we need their support, right?! If they were friends, they’d want to support us / buy from us … right?!! Wrong! Our friends and family may not be our customers. Nor should we feel disappointed when they spend their money elsewhere, and not buy from us. The simple truth is perhaps our services might not be a right fit for our family and friends. It’s a difference between them not supporting you or not having a need of the products.
On another note you may want to help your family and friends and can confuse your personal support to their professional support to your business. This can be summed up in one word boundaries. Personal boundaries are at the root of a fulfilled, balanced life. Without them, people can quickly lose themselves in their work, relationships, familial obligations, or service to others. They can even wind up being exploited or taken advantage of by people who do not respect them. These borders help define what you are willing to say “yes” to and what you decide to say “no” to. They give you a sense of agency and sovereignty over your decisions. Like an internal compass, boundaries can all start with a “gut feeling” that tells you when you have the time or energy to devote to something versus when you need to say “no.”
Jamie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a certified Life Coach, Motional Speaker, Author and Podcast Host. What is Life Coaching? Not sure where to start? Need someone to help? A Life Coach will walk with you as your advocate, encourager, and helper as you set goals to get you from where you are to where you want to be. A Coach helps bring organization and focus as you navigate life transitions with intention and purpose to create your step-by-step action plans. Counseling deals more with problems and personal issues. Coaching deals more with charting your course and overcoming obstacles.
Changing your life for the better takes courage and commitment. And if you really want to move to a new level quickly, it will take guidance. Figuring it out on your own is difficult. That’s why I am here to help. My job is to support you toward developing a vision of what you would like to create and/or shift in your life, and to support you as you move toward manifesting that vision. As your coach, I facilitate ways for you to find your own answers. We will first focus on discovering who YOU are; your strengths, saboteurs (things that hold you back) and values.
Let me help you cross those bridges in life that are holding you back. Allow me a chance to motivate you and overcome yesterdays regrets for tomorrows successes. I truly believe in you, do you?
I want to empower people to embrace change and do more with less. My story is proof that success is NOT about resources. It’s about recognizing the SOURCE of all sources. It’s about the conviction to charge ahead in spite of the challenges and critics. This all led me to become a Motivational Speaker, Life Coach and Author. But, most people know me as an ordinary man with an extraordinary message that is transforming lives.
Each day you can find a motivational message on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram or Youtube @ Respected Dreamers!
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Honestly, I read a bunch of self help books and leadership books. The one book to help me chase my dreams was Tyler Perry’s Higher is Waiting. Some of the quotes in the book really helped refocus my determinations and achieve daily successes to reach the bigger goals. Here are some quotes from the the book.
“God is like a satellite that navigates us around our lives. He’s telling us which direction to take and what turns to make. But God’s directions are like the GPS in your car: You have to pay attention to them or you’re going to get lost. You may have to backtrack. You may have to take a different”
“But stick to your Soul GPS. Envision your destination. Drive toward your dream. Trust God’s navigation. You’ll get to where He wants you to be. It’s your fate.”
“Try this affirmation: “I’m on the road to meet my dream.”
“It’s the same with your Soul GPS. Your job is to be clear and set your goal—your destination—in your heart. Be direct about what you want to do and where you want to go—and then drive on. No matter what route you end up taking, God will get you there. He sees what’s ahead.”
How did you build your audience on social media?
This is an area where I am looking to continue to grow. I have found success by being consistent and not chasing trends but being a trendsetter. I do not want to water down my message a mission for likes, I rather impact the lives. You can pay for boost for your post to reach a selected target audience to build your social media presence.
Hashtags are very important too. Create you a hashtag where it is easier to follow you and keep up with all of your online messages. I remember posting a video on Tik Tok and used hashtags common to my messages. It blew my mind that I had a video to receive over 17k views! Although the numbers fluctuate my main goal is to remain consistent. I encourage you all to do the same. Post daily or a few times a day to help build your social media presence.
