We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamie Batiste. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamie below.
Jamie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I turned a breakup into a business and never looked back.
After a painful breakup, my world felt like it was falling apart. Shortly after, my family and I suffered the unexpected loss of my brother. That’s when I truly understood the meaning of heartbreak. It wasn’t just about relationships anymore; it was about the profound losses in life that shape who we are. In those moments of pain and reflection, I knew I needed to create something that would help others turn their own heartbreak into strength. That’s how Rejected Hearts Club came to life.
I was aware that I wanted to make something significant, something that served as a reminder to people, particularly women, that they have the ability to transform their pain into strength. Jewelry, in my perspective, served as the ideal means to convey that idea due to its personal and symbolic nature. You keep it near your heart, and it can symbolize both identity and personal creativity. My jewelry is not just for aesthetics; it is a way to honor resilience, love, and inner strength.
The uniqueness of my designs is in the magnetic clasp. It solves a practical problem for people on the go who want something stylish, yet easy to wear. But more importantly, it became symbolic of my mission: to be a magnetic force in a world that sometimes feels lacking in connection and positivity. I wire-wrap Grade A Hematite stones for their healing properties, and every piece I create carries a sense of intention and empowerment.
As for knowing it was a worthwhile endeavor, that came when I saw how people responded to the story behind my brand. It wasn’t just a business; it was a movement—one that resonated with anyone who’s ever felt rejected and came out stronger. I also give back to the Myositis Foundation in honor of my brother, another deeply personal loss that transformed how I saw the world. Combining my passion for design with a meaningful cause made it clear to me that Rejected Hearts Club wasn’t just filling a gap—it was creating something new, something that makes people feel seen, loved, and celebrated.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Jamie Batiste, the creator of Rejected Hearts Club, a jewelry brand that was inspired by the pain of heartbreak following a breakup and the unexpected passing of my brother. My passion for creating has always been present, yet it was only during those personal struggles that my designs gained a more profound significance. The Rejected Hearts Club honors resilience, self-love, and transforming pain into strength.
My focus is on creating handcrafted jewelry with gold-filled magnetic clasps and wire-wrapped Grade A Hematite stones, emphasizing convenience, style, and significance. The magnetic clasps represent the power and bond we yearn for in a world that can seem fragmented at times. The unique factor of my brand is the individual narrative connected to each item—it goes beyond just accessories, it embodies empowerment and healing. I am honored to donate a portion of profits to the Myositis Foundation in memory of my brother, connecting each item to a larger cause.
I desire for my clients and followers to understand that Rejected Hearts Club is founded on love and resilience. Each item serves as a symbol to accept your path and not allow obstacles in life to shape you. My aim is to promote confidence, self-love, and resilience with every design.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One example that demonstrates my ability to bounce back is based on finding a way to progress after facing major loss. I thought I knew what heartbreak felt like after experiencing a tough breakup. However, soon after, my family and I experienced the sudden death of my brother. The loss was unbearable and completely broke me in ways I never thought possible. It made me face both the sorrow of loss and the dilemma of how to progress when everything seemed to be crumbling.
At that time, I had the option to either let the heartbreak shape me or discover a way to reconstruct myself. I decided to reconstruct. It was then that I understood progress isn’t about erasing the pain, but about discovering resilience in its presence. I focused my energy on Rejected Hearts Club, transforming it into a brand that honors strength and perseverance. However, maybe the most important thing I discovered was relearning how to love myself.
Caring for myself after experiencing loss involved letting myself heal, showing patience with my feelings, and understanding that resilience is not about being invincible but about deciding to stand up again after being knocked down. My jewelry mirrors the journey; every piece serves as a reminder that you can embody beauty and resilience, and proudly embrace your scars as they have influenced your current self.
For me, resilience is not only about recovering quickly; it’s about respecting the journey, practicing self-love, and harnessing the strength from your suffering to progress.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots in my life came when I least expected it. I was fiercely independent, focused on my career, and never really saw myself getting married or having children. I was living in Austin, thriving in business and enjoying life on my own terms. But then life threw me a curveball—I met the love of my life, and everything changed. Not only did I fall in love with him, but I also fell in love with his little boy. They lived in Las Vegas, which was already a big adjustment, but the real turning point came when we received a call that his son was in another state in child protective services.
At that moment, I knew my life was about to change forever. I went from living my best life in Austin to packing up everything and moving to Las Vegas to be there for both of them. It was a huge shift—from being an independent woman with no plans for kids to becoming an instant full-time mom to a 6-year-old. It was overwhelming at times, but I knew it was the right thing to do.
Fast forward to today, we’re raising a 15-year-old Gen Z teenager, and let me tell you, it’s a rollercoaster! But through all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t change it for the world. This journey has taught me so much about love, sacrifice, and resilience. It’s one of those moments that completely shifted the trajectory of my life, and I’m grateful for the family I have now.
