We were lucky to catch up with Jamiah Wise recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jamiah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I am happy as a business owner but I’ll be even happier when I get a brick and mortar store. I’m thankful for the ability to be able to have an online store but I would love a physical spot people could walk into to. I would love the foot traffic I would get having a local store people can see and pop into! I have a full time 9-5 job, and I run my business myself full time and sometimes my worlds collide. I can’t do certain events because I work Monday-Friday but thankfully I’m off weekends and I can participate in those events. I want to make my business my main income and the time is coming soon.
Jamiah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Conjure Magick was born from my love of spirituality and the known and unknown. There’s so much knowledge in the world and once you start to figure out things on your own it’s limitless. In 2020 I yearned for a change, I questioned everything and wanted answers for myself. I began studying spirituality and the healing of self. I have a love for nature and things that grow around us so it’s not surprising I took to herbs and their natural healing and spiritual powers. I discovered Hoodoo which is an African American Spirituality. Practicing Hoodoo you use herbs around you and ancestral power to navigate through life and manifest the things you want. When I started doing workings on myself like for self love and money drawing they worked so well I wanted to help heal others. I’m most proud of my ability to actually run a business based off my love and knowledge for spirituality. The way people trust and believe in me and what I do is so amazing. I’m so thankful for them and thankful for fact that my ancestors chose me!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I started my business from my own personal funds, as a single mom funding your business out of pocket 100% is no joke! I never got a business loan or a business startup fund, it’s all me! I am my biggest investor. If I’m not making money off the products I buy and produce then I’m loosing money. That’s why I promote my business so hard and go to events because there’s a large audience that will support you outside of the internet. I can’t wait to have a brick and mortar store for that reason because the foot traffic I’ll get from those that are spiritual lovers and those that are curious will take me to the next level.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My ability to really connect with my clients and be real and transparent. I don’t sugarcoat anything I’m very upfront and relatable as a person. It’s important I build a strong connection with all my clients! They appreciate my expertise and how personable that I am. On top of that I have different products to help all, spiritualist and non spiritualist. I have a little something for everyone.
