We were lucky to catch up with James Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, James thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
It started when I was at the age of thirteen, me and my uncle would watch all genres of movies in the livingroom after school. We would analyze each movie and talk about it. It was our own little way for spending time with each other. Fast forward to my early twenties, I began to love making music videos and that it what lead me into becoming a film director.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
United Films is a dynamic and innovative film company dedicated to producing captivating stories that resonate with audiences around the globe. Founded on the belief that film has the power to inspire and connect people, United Films strives to push the boundaries of creativity while maintaining a commitment to quality storytelling.
However, the journey of establishing and growing United Films is not without its challenges. One of the primary hurdles is securing funding for projects in an industry that can be unpredictable. Convincing investors of a film’s potential while navigating the competitive landscape requires a blend of passion, persistence, and strategic planning.
Another significant challenge is the ever-evolving technology in filmmaking. Keeping up with the latest advancements in equipment and software demands continuous learning and adaptation. This not only impacts production quality but also influences storytelling techniques, requiring the team to remain agile and innovative.
Additionally, building a talented and cohesive team is essential yet challenging. Finding the right mix of creative minds who share a common vision can be difficult, especially in a field where collaboration is key. Maintaining morale and fostering a positive work environment amidst tight deadlines and high expectations is crucial for success.
Despite these challenges, the creation behind United Films is driven by a profound love for storytelling and a desire to make an impact. Each project is a labor of love, reflecting the dedication and passion of everyone involved. The company is committed to overcoming obstacles with resilience and creativity, aiming to leave a lasting legacy in the world of cinema.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There was a pivotal moment in the journey of United Films when the reality of financial strain became undeniable. Despite the passion and dedication poured into the company, the projects had not yet generated enough revenue to sustain operations. The dreams of creating impactful films were overshadowed by the pressing need to pay the bills and support personal responsibilities.
After much contemplation, I made the difficult decision to temporarily set aside United Films and seek employment elsewhere. It was a bittersweet moment, filled with both disappointment and a sense of pragmatism. I had always envisioned United Films as a flourishing hub of creativity, but the financial pressures demanded immediate attention.
Taking a job outside of the film industry was challenging. It meant stepping away from the creative environment I loved and entering a world that felt foreign. The daily grind of a traditional job, while necessary, often left me yearning for the artistic freedom of filmmaking. However, I approached this new role with the same passion I had for my films, using it as a means to support my vision.
During this time, I learned valuable skills that would later benefit United Films. I honed my ability to manage budgets, negotiate contracts, and understand the business side of filmmaking. This experience provided insights into the importance of financial planning and sustainability in the creative industry.
Though it was a tough period, stepping away allowed me to reassess my goals and strategies for United Films. It reinforced my determination to build a resilient company that could withstand the ups and downs of the film industry. When I eventually returned to focus on my film company, I did so with renewed vigor and a clearer understanding of the balance between art and commerce. This chapter in my journey, though challenging, ultimately became a stepping stone toward a more sustainable future for United Films.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Growing the audience for United Films on social media was a strategic and creative endeavor that involved a multi-faceted approach. Understanding the importance of building a community around the brand, I focused on several key strategies to engage potential viewers and film enthusiasts.
Firstly, I leveraged storytelling to connect with the audience. By sharing behind-the-scenes content, production insights, and personal anecdotes related to the filmmaking process, I created a narrative that resonated with followers. This transparency fostered a sense of authenticity, making the audience feel like they were part of the journey.
Secondly, I utilized various social media platforms to diversify content and reach different demographics. Instagram became a visual showcase for stunning stills and promotional posters, while Facebook served as a platform for in-depth discussions and community building. Twitter allowed for real-time engagement and updates, creating a dynamic interaction with followers. Each platform was tailored to its unique audience, maximizing engagement.
Engagement was further enhanced through regular interactions with followers. I made it a priority to respond to comments, ask for feedback, and encourage discussions around film-related topics. Hosting Q&A sessions and live streams helped to humanize the brand and create a more personal connection with the audience.
Collaborations with influencers and other filmmakers also played a significant role in expanding reach. By partnering with individuals who shared a similar vision, I tapped into their audiences, exposing United Films to new potential fans. Cross-promotions and collaborative projects generated buzz and excitement, drawing more eyes to our work.
Additionally, I invested time in creating shareable content, such as trailers, teasers, and engaging graphics. These pieces were designed to evoke emotions and encourage followers to share with their networks, further expanding our reach organically.
Finally, I made use of targeted advertising to reach specific demographics interested in film and storytelling. By carefully analyzing audience insights, I was able to tailor ads that resonated with potential viewers, driving traffic to our pages and increasing our follower count.
Through these combined efforts, United Films not only grew its social media audience but also fostered a vibrant community of passionate film lovers eager to support and engage with our projects. This growth translated into a loyal following that became instrumental in the success of our film releases and future endeavors.
