We recently connected with James VirGodo and have shared our conversation below.
James, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
In a perfect world one would like to be supported from everyone they come across but the reality is everything isn’t for everyone and people owe you nothing. We live in a time where everything is accessible and if people choose to support you they have the power in their hands to share, repost, like, comment or scroll pass. We as entrepreneurs have the entire world at our disposals daily, I don’t care enough to worry about if friends or family support me because if they truly are those titles they would do it. I’ve endured a lot in my journey and I’m earning my support by first supporting myself, believing in myself and remaining in a new thought that being aligned with a rich mindset will unlock more support that’s to come.
James, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is James VirGodo I’m a Hip Hop artist/entrepreneur. Growing up I was always encouraged I was a great writer starting with my first grade teacher and with my love of music I merged myself into a recording artist at a young age expressing myself. Through Hip Hop I’ve learned about branding, creating characters, and articulating emotions I don’t talk about casually and this is what I service in my art. My music discusses my upbringing, my journey with God and exploring mankind. I seek to transition into different fields of art through writing however the root of VirGodo is being a writer.New fans and supporters can expect to have intellectual conversations at a coffee table discussing the lyricism I display in my brand of Hip Hop, feeling God Level when they listen.
Through recording my sophomore project VirGodo Season I created my brand God Level Genius which has garnered me a movement. I’ve been able to successfully create my own signature Sunglasses in different volumes selling out each time. The God Level Genius sunglasses are wooden frames with both arms engraved with God Level Genius and Virgodo in various color tints. The meaning of God Level Genius is a forever journey, it’s your walk with God and your mission to the world, I’ve always been a believer that God has sustained all of mankind with a Genius level talent.
I am most proud of the connection with the people over the years with my music and God Level Genius. To have people wear my merchandise with pride, and feel full off my music is a full circle moment due to the same feeling I felt with my favorite music acts. I am also proud to see God Level Genius written on murals in the city of Jackson, it was written in ink and now engraved in pavement.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Listening to entrepreneurs/business owners such a TD Jakes, Rick Ross, Ashton Riggs, Pierre Whiteside, Ashley Brown, Dianne Mounger, Bob Proctor has shifted my way of thinking in business with an upside. These are sources I draw inspiration from and learn as much as I can along with learning from my mistakes. In order to be successful you should study the greats that came before you.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think my character has played a role in my market with a successful reputation. Everything great in my life comes from being myself, I believe in treating others the way you want to be treated and also manners will take you where money can’t.
