We caught up with the brilliant and insightful James Park a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
James, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
As a full-time content creator, I manage all my social media on my own. I’d love to have a team to brainstorm ideas and help me develop bigger-picture concepts and series, but handling everything myself can be challenging. While I love having full creative control, I sometimes wish I had someone to provide constructive criticism and help me grow as a creator.
At the end of the day, your social media should reflect who you truly are, whether you’re showcasing a product, a service, or simply creating a fun space. As cliché as it sounds, the most important thing is to be authentic and show up as yourself, rather than crafting an “online persona” just for social media.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is James Park, also known as Jamesy from Jamesyworld on social media. I’m a content creator and cookbook author known for my love of Korean food, rice bowls, chili crisp, and more. I collaborate with brands to create eye-catching recipe videos and share easy, mostly Korean-inspired recipes that you can make at home with ingredients you likely already have in your pantry. My goal is to bring joy and excitement to your kitchen!
I also share personal stories and moments with my family, from videos of my parents trying American dishes for the first time to sharing a bottle of soju with my mom. My content brings happy, nostalgic memories that make people smile.
As a Korean immigrant, my unique perspective adds a special touch to my recipes, blending tradition with my own creative spin. I’m excited to share my flavors and stories through the lens of my experiences.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The creative freedom to express yourself and share your stories through the art form you feel most confident in, whether that’s cooking, writing, or something else.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had understood the power of asking for help earlier in my creative journey. I’ve always tried to do everything myself, even when I know I’m not the best at everything. Why spend five hours on something when someone else could do it in two? I’m learning to ask for help and delegate tasks to those who can do them better because that’s what truly helps bring a creative vision to life.
Creating something takes a team! I don’t have to do it all alone, and I wish I had realized that sooner.
