James & Khadijah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

As co-owners of Essential Element Healing Arts, we are dedicated to providing intuitive wellness to enhance the quality of life for our clientele. We utilize modalities such as energy, sound, and vibration healing as well as Akashic Records consultations. In addition, we have unique products to assist in the healing process such as hand-crafted crystal jewelry, sage bundles, and intention candles. This is not just a mission for us, it is our life’s purpose. Initially, we became healing practitioners in an effort to heal our own ailments that were not successfully being treated with western medicine. Energy healing helped us create better alignment, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. We were finally able to pinpoint the root causes of our issues and implement practices for success. While we are still on our healing journey, we are in full alignment with our path to healing. Once we realized how much healing with energy and frequency had enhanced our quality of life, we created Essential Element Healing Arts to share the experience with others. We are fully committed to awakening minds to know and understand that “YOU” are the “Essential Element” in your healing process. No one else can truly “heal” you. You must commit to healing yourself and that starts from deep within. It is only once we did the deep healing work within, that we understood our life’s purpose is to teach others how to heal themselves.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

We are James and Khadijah Dawkins, co-owners of Essential Element Healing Arts, offering Intuitive Wellness as well as unique healing products in Upstate South Carolina. We are both certified Reiki Masters, Sound Healers, and Shamanic Practitioners. In addition, Khadijah holds Culinary and Business degrees and is a certified Soul Calibration Practitioner in the Akashic Records. James is a multi-faceted vocal healer who has won multiple awards for his work. We are both strong believers in the fact that “YOU” are the essential element in your healing process, which is why we chose the life of energy work. We love the joy that energy healing brings to others and enjoy witnessing the healing evolution and growth process. We have personally found benefit in implementing intuitive wellness measures in our own lives, including energy, sound, and vibration healing as well as meditation, yoga, and chakra balance.

Together, we assist our clients with their healing process by helping them recognize the root cause of the physical or mental concerns. Once a client recognizes the source of the concern, we help them create a plan for success on their healing journey. What sets us apart from others is that we work as a unit, not just as a husband and wife team, but also with the client and their spiritual team. We are most proud of the fact that we have been able to follow our life’s purpose and help others realize their potential to truly heal. Essential Element Healing Arts is an inclusive environment. We represent the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities with pride!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

The biggest lesson we have had to unlearn is depending on others for our healing. While others are great resources to utilize in the healing process, we are the ones who have to commit to an initiate our own healing journeys. We all must realize that, doctors, healers, therapist, etc. can only lead and guide us. We must actually do the work ourselves. For example: a doctor can tell you to exercise 30 minutes a day to lower your blood pressure. You must actually do the exercise to see the desired result. You cannot depend on the doctor to heal your blood pressure concern without being committed to following the doctor’s guidance. Even if the doctor prescribes a medication, you must actually take the medication to see the result. “You” are always the “Essential Element” in your healing process. It is up to us to do the work.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

Well…funny story! We didn’t have any initial capital to start our business. We chose to utilize any extra funds that came our way. For example, if our power bill was less than the anticipated monthly amount, we would save that amount and put it towards a certification class. We also decided to start selling the products to others that we were creating for ourselves. We were creating our own crystal jewelry to wear. Then, people started asking if we could make jewelry for them. Others began to ask us about the sage we were burning and where they could get it because it smelled so good. Any proceeds from a product sold would also go toward earning another certification or buying an instrument for sound healing. Eventually, we had earned our certifications and had collected enough instruments to really get the business going.
