We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful James Echols. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with james below.
James, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
One of the biggest risks when starting my own business was how and when to quit my 9-5 so Tnprintworks will have 100% of my time and energy. After working nearly 12 years in large scale apparel decoration, I started a screenprinting business in 2020 (during Covid), which led to shortages in supplies, delays in shipments and not much demand for our services. I went full-time in 2023, after working and trying my best to juggle both a full work schedule and deadlines for my own customers jobs, it felt like it was time. I automated my systems in 2024 and it took the business one step closer to taking on larger customers and to be able to deliver quality goods in a timely manner.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
If you’ve been to a concert and seen merch in the back on a table, I might have been the one to produce it. the goal was to make retail-quality goods for bands and brands. At Tnprintworks we take your designs and create awesome looking merch that your proud to wear. We also work with customers who have ideas but no branding whatsoever, in which case we can help design a project that can give your business/team/trip/corporate apparel a level up. in 5 years we have worked with many groups and individuals to promote themselves with Hats/shirts/bags/sweats/koozies and much more! We utilize manual and automated screenprinting equipment as well as embroidery, Direct-to-film and other types of heat-applied transfers to accomplish many different types of apparel decorations.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Three things that have helped me retain a good business reputation are:
Clean work. Going to the extreme to make sure the product we create is as good as it can be.
Communication. Being honest about our capabilities, communicating issues to the customer so we can have a solution before the due date, and making myself available when needed has helped gain the trust of many of my customers.
Affordability. Sometimes in this industry it’s a race to the bottom dollar, but that’s not our model. Our pricing is fair and the level of work you receive for the price has convinced many of my customers to remain loyal.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word-of-mouth is one of the best ways we have found to attract a new client.
If you do really good work that you and your team are proud of, others will inquire.
